Corolla XRS Seat = Solara Seat

    Folks,

A number of us have been thinking seriously of ripping our driver seats out in favor of an XRS seat when the XRS becomes available, presuming it "fits better." Well, I just attended the local "auto show" today, and while they didn't have a Corolla XRS, they had a Solara ("Camry Solara"), and gosh that seat looked familiar! If you want to get an idea of what the XRS seat will feel like, just go to your local dealer and jump into a Solara! Check out these pictures:

Now, have a look at a Solara seat:

    Looks very close, eh??

You can see all of the controls in the Solara picture -- the "bar" at the front to move the seat back and forth, then there's the usual seatback release lever at the back of the seat. The big lever in front of that raises the back of the seat cushion very much like the Corolla seat, though you "pump" the lever to make it happen, rather then turning the knob we have. The really cool part is the knob in front of the big lever, towards the front of the seat -- that adjusts the angle of front part of the seat -- dial in the thigh support you like!

As we're finding out, buying a new XRS seat will be incredibly expensive -- figure on $1,200 - $1,500. Maybe too much to even go there. But, if it's got the same kind of controls as the Solara seat -- mainly, if it's got that thigh support knob -- it really might be well worth it!

At any rate, if you want to get a taste of what the XRS seat will probably feel like, again, go jump into a Solara!

It appears that the seats in the Solara are wider. It could be an eye trick, but the Solara is a significantly wider car...
