Complete n00b with a Panasonic MP3 deck and some speakers

    Hi all.

I'm pretty new at all this audio stuff, but I do want to try my hand at installing my new deck myself. Are there any DIYs for installing a deck and rear speakers? I have a 98 rolla.

    Thanks.

hey guys, sorry to be off topic, but I need some help too installing my headunit tomorrow. From what I read here and from the Crutchfield instructions, I'm still confused as to what needs to be removed from the panel. For a 95DX, I need to remove the rear window defrost, and emergency light buttons AND the temp slider knob things correct? Then just grab the panel and pull it out? Thanks

So I need to pull out the slider things by hand, and use screw driver to pry out the buttons?

You could always buy the Haynes manual for the 93-02 Corolla, they explaine how to remove all the trim panels and such to help you with your install, and for the wiring, its' pretty simple (especially if you have a wiring diagram for your deck too). Basically you'll need, for your deck, to have the harness for the Corollas (93-02 Harness), and splice the wires from the harness to the wires coming out of your deck (they are usually marked as to what each wire is for, so just match them up, ir if they are not marked, refer to the wiring diagrams), plug it in, put int he screws/trim panel again, and you have a new, working deck.

By all means buy the wiring adaptors ! So nice to not have to cut any plugs off. The trim pulls straight out and reveals 4 screws for bracket. Front speakers may need spacers to prevent glass from hitting magnets.

You want to hear something funny? When I put my first deck in my Corolla, 1 of the 4 screws we're missing, and the car has been in the family since new, and I know the dash was never taken apart before... I found that weird...

And yeah, if you can find the proper adaptor, get them, makes it much easier, when I put my first deck in, I could not find any for my car (I live in a smaller place where nobody bothers modifynig Toyota's, its all civics and j-bodies).

On the 93-97 you should only have to pop off the black tips of sliders (grab firmaly and pull out, should just come right off), then you have to take off the black surround for the middle part of the dash, I actually used a butter knife to pry up one corner(watch you don't tear your vinyl), after one corner was up, you just get a good grip on it, and start pulling, you'll see all 4 corners will pop out... but don't pull it too much because there are 3 electrical connections you have to undo first, the one for your clock (if you have one) and the one for your rear defrost and your hazard lights. After that is all off, just look for 4 screwsaround the factory deck, (i believe they are 8mm socket heads on them). Undo the screws, the deck should come out (with a metal adapter on each side that you will have to transfer toy our aftermartket deck)... and unplug the factory deck, plug in your aftermarket deck and do the reverse.

Oh one question. Where do I buy these magical harnesses? Toyota? Or do other shops have them?
