Kinda off subject.. sorry but 3 speed with CAI reminded me of a car i saw a week ago. A corolla all banged up and had an intake and exhaust. Looked very Mexican (some of you know what i mean). ANyway that car had a bumper sticker that said "My car is loud but it gets 50mpg" .... I thought it was pretty cool

haha even if it did get 50 mpg I still wouldn't be caught dead in it.

Cold Air Intake for a 3 speed auto

Can anybody out there recommend a good cold air intake for a 1998 Corolla with a 3 speed automatic? Is it okay to put one on with a 3 speed to begin with? Also, where can one find a decent front spoiler/lip and a front sway bar at a reasonable price?

There's nothing wrong with a used intake. There are no moving parts to wear out. All you need to check for is rust.

Especially rust on the inside. The one I bought from a guy on this forum has quite a bit of rust on it, but I sprayed a whole lot of rust converter on it. So far so good, but I still have some work to do on it.

Rust in the intake??? You sure that was rust? I thought all intakes are made of aluminum.
I guess someone was being too cheap and bought a no name iron one in the first place.

just trash the filter that comes w/ it and get another one , if its the foam element , weapon r is known for there filters crumbling and going into your intake.

intake is intake, I'd get any intake since its just a bent aluminum pipe, but I'd invest into a decent cone filter at the end so something by K&N or HKS or something like that. Don't forget about the bypass valve so the water don't get into your engine.

It is an ELP, not a no name.

ic ic. Didn't know that ELP is using steel for intake. I thought all intake tubes are aluminum. Learn a new thing today. :D

Well, it was a custom make intake so steel is one of the easier and cheaper ones to weld.

i don't know what the material is, but i just installed an AEM CAI on a 2006 civic SI. WOW talk about an upgrade. anyway that thing was SUPER light!!! and compared to my ELP CAI for my corolla, the AEM is 75% lighter, i'm almost certain

Can you mandrel bend an aluminium pipe in the shape of the ELP?

The intake weight is negligible though. It wouldn't affect anything.

yeah but using steel? unless its stainless steel then i'd worry about it rusting and rust getting into the engine. And with aluminum intakes so cheap on ebay you just buy 2 or 3 long pipes and can easily assemble your own custom CAI.

Yeah, that is true. I forgot the take the heat sink theory into consideration. I'm not sure how aluminum would compare to steel.

ahhh , but the metal is a factor . you want the metal that will act less as a heat sink. the most heat resistant metal.
i know i used galvinised steel for mine (haha 3" drier pipe ), and just coated the inside w/ oil in a spray bottle. 2 years old and still fine , no oxidation or rust . the zinc isnt even starting to powder.
