    clutch?

anybody here have ACT stage 1 clutch?

i'm tryna stick with stage 1 since i don't have much modification...just my short ram..its a 98 VE. Besides the act has anyone used a stage one clutch thats aftermarket? ACT seems to be a bit pricey for a stage 1.. I found it at www.autopartswarehouse.com

btw this might be a bit off topic but my shifting feels awkward. In 4th and 5th gear, my shifter tend to rattle w/o the noise, whenever i gas it over 45. What could be causing this? isn't my clutch engaging fully? or is it my tranny? i don't think its normal though.

the rattling sounds like an input shaft bearing or just a thrust bearing. i have had a centerforce 30% over stock hold , which is probably considered a stage 1 . but if you really dont need or arent gonna mod anything in the future i would go oem . you might run into "chattering" problems w/ a modded clutch and nothing to back it up . also its unnessacerily rough on the crank , and can some times cause crank walk.

thats not enough for a higher clamping clutch , considerind , even w/ all that , you might see a gain of 10 hp if even that. as for the fly wheel , you can get your original resuraced at a machine shop (about $80) or you can get a new one (about $120) that part is up to you . also , its a good idea , while you are in the back of the motor , and have the tranny off , go ahead and replace the rear main seal . its an $8 piece , that can save you a lot of money , and time down the road.:D

thanx for the input. Should i also replace my stock flywheel with oem after i buy a new clutch kit? I only have a short ram but i'm planning to slap on headers and exhaust system before the holiday hits. Recommendations?

i think thats the price for installed . i know you can get a decent clutch at an auto parts store for around $150 and a new flywheel for about $80-$100 , so unless thats the dealers price for installed , tell em to go get phuked.:D

gotcha. only the stealership here in hawaii says its about 1000 for the new clutch kit and a newly resurfaced flywheel. daym.. well might as well go for napa auto or checkers. thanx tho i'll try to look for a machine shop that would touch my flywheel. rear main seal? is that necessary?

most shops around here want $600-$800 for clutch jobs , and in most cases that dont include parts . if it does , there bottom of the barrel stuff. just find a friend or make a friend that has a lift , andair tools . you can have it done in just a few hours.

sorry but i gotta get back on this topic. Someone tell me if its my clutch this time or some bearing. I started up my car this afternoon and i noticed gears grinding during idle. I'd also feel it on the clutch pedal not so much on the gas pedal tho. Another problem is when i place it on 1st gear and try to release the clutch, it seems as if there are broken peices inside the tranny i feel it on the pedal. Its also going slower than normal when i release the clutch. Whats with this??? i'ma try and take it to the shop 2maro. Hope its nothing worse like my gear box is screwed or something. arghhh!
