    Clutch burning...oops

Well today i decided to do a huge burnout because i felt like it and it was a little wet out and im getting new tires in 2-3 weeks. So i dumped the clutch in first like i usually do when i do a burnout but then i pulled the handbrake, switched to second and bounced of the rev limiter, went into 3rd and they were still spinning and i thought i was gonna pop a tire so i went to fourth and finally got them/it to stop spinning. Well after i did it i smelt burned rubber (obviously) but after that went away there was a strong smell, what i think was the clutch burning. Im pretty sure thats what the smell is from when i learned how to drive standard i burned the clutch a little and it smelled like that i think. Well i didnt think i was that hard on the clutch, but it sure stunk. I drove home, it still smelled, smelled while the car was parked and then i went back out and it mostly went away but i could still smell it when it was parked. So i opened up the hood to see if i could see anything, the smell was under there, so im pretty sure it was the clutch. I havent checked yet again but should i be worried about the smell? The clutch still operates fine, no slippage or anything. If the smell doesnt go away what can i do about it?

Yeah dude...That was definately your clutch. You might want to chill a little bit or you will need a new one. Actually, if you act me, it's a decent mod and an aftermarket clutch really makes it more fun to drive. So, if you have the money, go ahead and cop one! If not, stop slippin' the clutch so bad till you learn how to drive.

But you can do that without slipping the clutch so bad that you smell it a good bit..You will learn DanielSon!

see, thats the thing thats wierd, like, i do burnouts all the time, and ive never had clutch problems ever, i think i screwed up this time because i pulled the handbrake and it stopped me and i kinda paniced so i mustve done it accidentally when i got nervous. I mean, ive done probably like 50 burnotus and never had a problem before. Also, i went driving jsut now and the clutch seems fine, i can still smell it occasinally, but its not bad anymore.

Well, it's not going to go bad when you smell it...It will eventually start slipping though and you will have to get a new one. Usually, 3rd gear will start slipping first, then every gear will be shitty.

Just be careful dude...Dont do burnouts all the time. It doesn't just burn your tires but it puts wear and tear on your engine and tranny--and pulling the ebrake is not very smart while in one. Save them for the track man, trust me.

yeah, after i get new tires, im never going to do them at all, becuase i cant waste the money, or risk damaging somethign else. I already blew the engine once, luckily it was under warranty.

    First at ~4000rpm.. =)

I did a few burnouts a couple of hours before I had my new tires put on. I have an ACT clutch, though..so I have no mushyness, smell, or anything.

The one decent burnout I did on the stock clutch left me with the softest and least 'grabby-est' clutch I've ever used..until it cooled down.

how do you get it to stay at 4000 in first and keep the tires spinning? In all my tries i always get it up to the redline then shift so that i dont bounce of the rev limiter. Do you have to feather the throttle alot? Next time i do one ill have to try staing in first.

Just let off the throttle a bit..peak torque is at 4400rpm, so you shouldn't have any problem keeping your tires spinning.

now why are you trying to do a burn out in the first place? it would of been str8 if you where in a burn out contest and actually get money for placing. prolly this is your only car and hopefully i dont want you to destroy your car cuz you did a burn out. really im just looking out for you. yea its cool to see all that small and the smell of burn rubber but youll hate it when you have to repair your car for the damage you have done.

Ya the mistake came when u shifted. Ever time i have ever done a burn out i left it in first. I didn't think a corolla could even do a burn out in 3rd gear unless u are on ice.

on ice eh? Well, with bald tires and some dampness on the road i got it to spin in third. no im not lying. and yes my tire is really bald. why is it so bad to shift when doing a burnout? I dont understand. someone please explain this to me. And also, im addicted to burnouts. I dont care if anyone is watching or if its for money or anything. I just love them. You can call me a freak, but thats just how i am. I dont see how i can do any damage doing burnouts by just letting off the clutch quick and squealing around turns and stuff like that. I dont see how that coudl do damage.
