There is no walkthrough. I would use BG ISC Induction System Cleaner and the BG 44K Power Enhancer. Those will clean up your intake manifold and throttle body and your engine deposits in combustion chambers, intake manifolds, ports and on valves.

Cleaning out the air intake and throttle body

I want to clean out the air intake and throttle body to improve performance and to get rid of this minor squeak under the hood. Is there a walkthrough with pics/movie to do this somewhere? I could really use some help here..

this is pretty simple and strait forward , look for the bolts that hold it all together , keep them in order as you pull them out , once you get the tb and intake off and dissassemble , use carb and choke cleaner to spray all that ish out . then reassemble.

bg is good stuff too , but for a good clean , dissassembly is a must .

if you know the proper way to do it , you can also "steam" clean your head.
hold engine at about , 2000rpms , use an adjustable spritz bottle and get the lightest mist you can.
at 2 second intervals , sprits the water in front of your throttle body w/o the piping and filter of course.
you will hear youre engine , kinda bog when you spritz , when your engine idles strait again spritz again.
    repeat this about 10 times.

^It sounds so danger to do to me. I think you really need to know what you're doing.
How wonder how the engine will act without the AFM/MAP/MAF, just the throttle body alone.

as long as you dont keep spritzing water while the engine is bogging , your fine ,hence me saying , only spritz again when idle straitens up.

i dont think the engine will even rev without the sensors.

the best advice i can give , is to pick up a chilton manual. haynes sucks , and is not very in detail for the advanced mechanic.

btw what year is your corolla , and what engine?

if its the 4afe i can walk you through it over the phone.

Mine is a 2001 Chevy Prizm, and I read that it was an 01 Toyota Corolla clone. I'm sure it has the exact same engine. Thats why I posted stuff here. I'll try and find the manual by Chilton. Does anyone know if theres' an electronic version of the book? I might just find it online if there is one...

yes the engines are "clone" too.

as for an electronic chilton , yes theres something like that but it cost$$$ , i dont know where to look , but ive seen it before in my own adventures.

i dont mess with anything newer than 97 , when it comes to the corolla , im the old school distributer type.

Finally did it at my friend's garage! TB is clean, MAF is clean, the entire stock intake (not the manifold yet) is clean. Will replace the sparks next, but this did help it quite a bit. Idles smoother, accelerates better and best of all, starts more promptly!

It certainly would. I have 138K on mine and I can tell you it feels a lot better, very smooth idle and most phenomenal change was the prompt start. Basically, cleaning out the TB helps the engine breathe better (a little for sure).

When I did it, I just disassembled the tubing from the air-filter box to the TB, and I was surprised to see that it looked pretty clean. However, when I sprayed some of the cleaner, I could see it turn black instantly as it ran down. Also, when I reached out as far as I could behind the valve, it was getting pretty ugly and gunky. For a perfect clean, I would recommend completely disassembling the TB. Otherwise, use a toothbrush and reach as far as you can holding the valve open.
