    checking and correcting timing

ok, i checked my timing on my 97 rolla dx 1.8l the other day. after the engine had time to warm up, it showed the timing mark hafway in between the arrow and the 10 mark. so i'm guessing this is the 5 mark, does that mean 5 degrees? i checked my book and it says to correct the timing, to unbolt the distributor, rotate it slightly and then bolt it back into place and check timing again. which way do i rotate it and how much? i just installed a new distributor and cap and rotor, so maybe thats why my timing is off. when the engine is warmed up, it seems to have less power then when it is first started, maybe because of the advanced timing and a leaner mix. help me out please

you should be using your timing light while adjusting your distributor. That will tell you which direction you need to take it. If you're reading the book on it, it should be telling you this.

I've just adjusted my timing in the shop a few days ago.. it was pretty simple
All the above procedure are exactly right, only thing I have to add is after u remove the jumper from E1 and TE1 the ignition should be advanced 12-22degrees before top dead center

    what he said

its really a simple procedure, dont get discouraged

loosen the bolt or two bolts holding your distributor to the head so you can rotate the whole assembly...... then using the timing light to tell you where youre at you just turn the distributor till it reads factory specs which i think is 10degrees tdc. then you tighten the bolts and go on your way
