    Cheap Performance

    I'm new to the forum, and I just bought a Red 04 Corolla S. I am looking to get some more pwer out of it, and was wondering what I could do cheap (under $400).

    Thanks for the help!

    If you want more power, you have to spend more than $400. But since you want something that can help you at less cost, you may want to invest in an exhaust system and later on add an intake which only cost another $180.

    You can remove the intake snorkel and the white resonater inside the factory airbox to tide you over until you can buy an intake, or you can simply do it and replace the stock filter with a high-flow one from TRD or K&N. The airbox itself isn't horribly restrictive, the opening is pretty close to 3" in diametre, which is roughly the same as any intake tubing. I've opened up the stock intake with the above mods (sans high flow filter) and there is a tangible increase in power. I haven't dynoed it, but the average from dynos you'll find on the web are between 4 and 6%, which is just as good as any intake system.

    thanks for the replies. I plan on putting alot of money into performance down the road, but I just want a few things to tide mo over until money allows serious mods.

    These are mods that paid off for me until I moved to the bigger bucks.

    throttle body bypass (look in the DIY) = $0-$5
    high flow A/F = $30-$50
    CAI = New (AEM, Injen, TRD) $180-$260 (I suggest getting it used from someone for very cheap)
    Exhaust = varies

    Good luck.
