Cheap cold air intake for the Weapon R Dragon

Ok, I had to post this. I bought a Weapon R Dragon intake and had it installed. I have driven with it for the last two years without any problems. The only thing I really noticed with this setup is the lack of low end punch when it is hot out. Hence it is sucking in HOT air from the engine bay.

I researched the ram air add on for the weapon R and then decided to have a look at that stock rubber piece that wraps around the battery and comes up behind the drivers headlight assembly.

Heres what I found out. The whole thing comes out with one bolt that is at the bottom of the fender by the right side of the battery, and there is a speed clip that holds the airhorn on just in front of the battery.

Modification idea: I decided to pull the weapon R out and the battery and the rubber tubing and have a look round. After wrestling with everything I found that the opening behind the headlight will accomodate flipping the front half of the cold air line and routing it down to just around the corner from the radiator by the front where guess what, cold air comes right in.

So here is what to do. Remove everything as mentioned(Battery, Tray, Rubber hosing) with only a 10mm socket and wrench an extension. Set aside carfully and don't lose anything.

Grab the rubber hosing and twist it so that the air intake side is pointing down, and then feed it into the opening with your hand and fish it around until you can see the open end poking out from the right lower front just below the headlight and front grill. It will reach far enough trust me.

Put the one bolt back that holds the plastic end onto the fender well. the bottom end has a round close circle that matches up with the round opening that an aftermarket CAI would go through. Bolt it in tight and hold the back piece tight against the fender to get it to hold and clear the weapon R when you put the filt housing back on. Don't put it on just yet, that goes on last.

Now Remount the battery assembly making sure to notice that the tray has two alignment pins and matching holes. It is a plastic battery tray and just sits in place. Put the battery back and r-bolt it and secure the positive lead 1st and then the neg lead.

Finally remount the Weapon R intake head and align the stock return cold air opening to line up in front of your filter. As an extra measure to ensure only cold air gets to the filter, Weapon R now makes a heat shield with opening in the front that was originally designed to feed off of a ram air, and I'll bet that it will fit the stock hosing without too much difficulties.

    Viola Cold Air induction.
