    Changing stock stereo LEDs...?

I'm thinking of keeping my stock stereo in my car but the thing is I don't like the nasty green backlight to it. Is it green LEDs behind the screen? If so, how would I go about changing them out? I'm thinking of putting a white LED so the backlight would come up white with black text (as usual).

That's lots of work. You need to solder lots of LEDs. About 30~40.

    i've done it before:

It took me a good hour and a half and it had like 30 super small surface mount led's.

What I did was get me an extra stock radio from ebay for cheap in case I messed anything up, and I ended it using the parts from it since I managed to crak my LED display while doing the work. You first have to find out what size LED's you need, then you can go to www.mouser.com and match them by size. Do not get the extra bright ones since I didi that at first and I had to swap them with regulsr ones since teh extra bright ones where too bright.

I know people with celicas have donethis as well.

Not worth if to me to change a stock stereo, just get an aftermarket that matches the light scheme you want to go for and change the other lights... casette players suck anyway

Whoa whoa, you can change the clock color?

I have a blue face on my HU and I was meaning to changing all my bulbs for the AC and stuff to blue, but I was paranoid about the green clock.

Anyone have any instructions on how to go about it?

Doesn't that mean I have to find a way to mix the light to come out with blue?

    Green + What = Blue?

I never remembered this in art class.

Well, the only problem I see with transparent film is that if you have any dust (inevitable) between the tape and the plastic on the clock, it's going to show like a mother especially at night. Since the light is going to be reflecting right into it.

I don't mind changing LEDs, I just don't wanna open something I'm gonna break. But if it's the only way...

The surface mount LEDs would be a real challenge, of course still possible.

sum1 on the old vvti used this stuff called rubelith the stuff they use to cure photos, and he actually opened the clock up and put the film behind the clock (it was red) and it came out perfect no dust and he didnt have to match any colors

I opened the clock and did red cellophane. It came out good. Of course if you want blue thatn that is impossible since you would need to change the LED display to a white one to get blue.

my method was open the enitre clock and added the red transparent colored tape made by 3M on top of the screen and the put everything back together and there you go :) your clock is now red. I will try to post pic if i get a chance.
