it has been done, no it won't work correctly.

the only possible scenario in which this would work is if you had an automatic 00-02 corolla (not sure about 03 ecu pinout so i'm not going to say anything about that) and you swapped transmissions to a manual and put an 00-01 celica gt ecu in it. the reasons are the celica gt ecu pinout is the same as the auto corollas but it doesn't control the transmission properly.

hmm. well my corolla is a 5 speed to start.
and I would do custom wiring rather than trying to use the stock connectors

i doubt that the gains, if any, would be worth the hassle

You'll have an easier time swapping a 6 speed manual into your car than a four speed auto... You would need to swap the harnes, the ecu, the tranny and a bunch other bits and pieces...

If you really really want a 4 speed then sell your car and buy one with a 4 speed...

i think my 3 sp tranny is going up, i was wondering if a celica gt 4 spd auto would bolt right on to an '02 rolla. If so i might see if i can grab one from a junked gt and then be able to use the gt ecu too. does anyone know if that might work?
