So my best friend and roommate told me of a little website tonight called www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com and they make catbacks in aluminized steel and 304 stainless for many vehicles. all they do is exhaust bending and catbacks. so i decided to email them about the possibility of making us (8th gen people) a catback exhaust system. now i have not heard back yet, but browsing the site, it seems like they use quality stuff. .065 wall piping, only borla, magnaflow and vibrant mufflers. they also have the option for just exhaust piping and you can add on your own muffler.

the full kits run 408 for stainless, less for the aluminized.. which in my opinion is really cheap. they build them in what ever size you would like, but the most common seem to be 2.25, 2.5 and 3in. he found the site on one of his altima forums. some guy bought a 3in stainless kit from them and did a review on it. others seemed to like it and it looks like it fit well. ill get the link from him so i can post it on here.

also, they are located in florida and i dont know if they will need a car to fabricate the catback. more than likely they will, so anyone here know someone in florida into modding their 8th gen? lol

You can still get a 2.25" cat back from Thermal R&D on special order, I would imagine, try giving those guys a call. Couldn't help you with a part number or anything though. I am very pleased with the quality, no problems after 10 years, although it is a bit loud.

i honestly didnt know that they still offered it. good to know. i was looking for a 2.5in. i still plan to swap a 2zz within a year or so. so the larger pipe would be nicer for when that comes around. plus on a supercharged 1zz, i think 2.25 might be a bit tiny anyways. i have stuff to make an exhaust right now, including brand new muffler and 20 in long 5in canister style resonator to keep the drone down. but i figured i would give these guys a chance. if they can, ill buy one. if they cant ill build mine.

and i got a email response from them today as well! good news!

    Mandrel Exhaust Systems

    Thanks for your interest,

Yes, we do have a tubing system for the 98-02 Corolla. Its not a bolt on catback, but it does include all the tubing (mandrel bent) and hardware. You would just have to assemble the kit and use a muffler/tip. Similar to the other tubing systems we sell.

Let me know if your interested. The price for 2.5 inch would be $120.00 for Aluminized or $195.00 for Stainless Steel.

Yep. Going to buy one exhaust system. 2.5 in can flow enough air to support around 400-450hp. 3in will do over 600hp. Since I plan to have a turbocharged 2zz eventually, I think the 2.5in will give me the best sound, flow and be quiet enough to daily drive it. With the supercharged 1zz its going to be a bit louder.

there are some sound clips. most sound decent, but some cars just sound shitty no matter what exhaust you put on them. seems like most opt out of the resonator, where as i would like one to kill interior drone. ill post prices when they email me back

the thermal is 2.25 right? it should be good. it will have a bit more mid range and might be choking a bit on the top, but not much. remember, im also planning on the future as well, so a larger exhaust right now is ok.

and if you did upsize, i would imagine someone on here would be willing to buy the thermal off of you.

LOL, I'm sure I'd get more value out of a used Thermal by building another 8th gen than selling it.
