    Carbon Fiber Hoods

Im eventually gonna get one for my car one day...and one day its gonna fade just like all cf hoods do. Its only inevitable. Seibon does it, VIS does it, Invidia does it. But my real question here is preservation. Ive heard two different things about preserving a cf hood. One says that you should wax the hood at least once a month to help protect it from environmental factors. Another says you shouldnt use wax on a cf hood cuz it will just speed up the aging process of the hood. So can anyone clear this little dilemma up?? Also, other than garaging a car, if you kno any other way to preserve a cf hood, then please lemme kno...

some manufactures inclding vis use a cheap clear coat on it so it fades over time. I hear of people sanding it down and re-clearcoating it right when they buy it.

A guy on the 7thgencivic forum had a Seibon cf hood and it faded a year after he got it...but he waxed it everytime he washed so that just brings me back to the whole waxing thing....it almost seems like too much of a hassle to buy a cf hood if you have to recoat it..im sure fading time varies person to person, hood to hood tho cuz ive heard of them lasting much longer than a year..

..And for the record, id never paint any cf parts either, lol...I drive an automatic 4dr 4-banger econobox Civic...so i wouldnt buy the hood for performance, lol....

obviously if you dont drive the car daily and park it out in the sun it wouldn't fade as quickly. But I'd get one more because its 1/3 the weight of the stock hood than for the looks which IMO is kinda played.

Werent carbon fiber hoods made to reduce weight in the first place? I never considered cf for looks ever, just the weight and it comes in handy if you race alot lol.

cf hoods look ugly on dark colors. no matter what, i'd paint it just to keep a subtle look.

a good rule of thumb, don't leave it out on the sun. Buy a car cover or under the shade so it won't fade. I thought myself that they do last long after all this sh** I'm hearing. try asking a show car specialist since they may know a thing or two for care of carbon fiber parts.

Nice find! I give you an A. My hood looks like its starting to fade a bit around the edges (thats the FL sun for ya though). This should help if it works like he claims.

thats why i painted it with LEXAN clear coat paint. my friend painted his to body color and also used LEXAN and a clear coat finisher. the only bad thing is that its very expensive.
