    car wouldn't start today

I have a question for everyone. I couldn't start my rolla s 04 today until my friend jumpstarted it, but my battery seemed fine. What could it be? the wires? it's still not as it use to be. when you turn the key, it kinda studders before starting. thanks.

spark plugs/wires possibly or battery does need replacement.... winter is closing in so as it gets cold the car gets more difficult to start when these things are worn and such

If the engine seems to crank slower or hesitate when cranked, then most likely it's a battery or alternator. Both should still be covered under warranty. I'd seriously doubt an alternator, though - usually the Denso alternators are good for at least 150,000 miles or so. 67,000 on my 03 and never a problem.

If it cranks normally, but just doesn't seem to want to "catch", then I'd think spark plugs or coil packs (there are no spark plug wires on these engines....they are direct ignition with 1 dedicated coil per cylinder). Maybe something in the ECU - pull your ECU 15A fuse and let it sit for a few minutes to clear the memory and see if that helps. The 1ZZ-FE engines usually DO NOT fire up with the touch of a key...you have to crank them for a second or two before they start. It's probably due to the newer designed starter which doesn't rotate the engine as quickly (and doesn't draw as much power off the battery) as the previous models.

    thanks trav,
I will give it a shot..this morning it was acting up again..thought maybe it was the alternator...the radio and my clock seemed slow to appear on the screens and my radio turned on but the audio died and all i could hear was a slight static in the background...do you still think it's the alternator? it does hesitate to start...my battery sign is still green..what else? i hope it doesn't cost much...i'm a poor college student. thanks guys..appreciate all the help i can get...

take it to the dealer and get it checked out. you shouldn't be having problems to start your car coz it's an 04 model! even if the weather is cold, your car is pretty new to be having this type of problem.

i have an 03 and i park outside. when the temp. drops to -10 degrees C. or lower, the engine cranks over slower but it fires up no probs.
