    Car Alarm Recommendations?

Anyone have experience installing an alarm? I put an Audiovox in my last car with a dei remote start addon, and it worked pretty well. Looking to put a good security system on my new ride, and have come up with no terribly useful info on alarm stuff. Seems to me that most brands are nearly identical, espcially the DEI stuff....it all seems the same, just with different names. Python, Viper, Hornet.....what is the difference?

Have a local dealer that tells me AutoPage is pretty good. Have had no experience with their stuff, but I did scour their web site for info...and it's a crappy site with next to no info.

I'm considering the AutoPage RS-650, Viper 550 ESP, and the Hornet 553T. Anyone have any horror stories, and glowing recommendations about these or other alarm systems?

Also, anyone have any wiring diagrams for our cars? I found some for the 00 Corolla, but nothing else.

I'll try to share any info I gather along the way. Seems that there is only audio info on the forum for the most part, very little security stuff.

    Thanks for the help.

Depends what you want. Do you want an alarm or something that will help prevent theft. For theft prevention immobilizers are the way to go.

My primary concern is security. The alarm I will choose will have a started disable, but I don't think that is what you mean by immobilizer. What did you have in mind?

By security do you mean you don't want people breaking in and stealing you stereo, or you don't want your car stolen?

People generally ignore audible alarms these days. If someone wants to break in and steal your stereo, the first thing they'll do is cut your battery cable - end of noise.

Immobilizers do nothing to stop stereo theft - they are designed to make it difficult to steal the car. They cut off the starter, the ignition circuit and the fuel circuit. The good ones are only sold my licensed dealers who must also do the installation. They don't want you, or anyone else, to know how they are installed.
