Can a XRS head fit on a S motor?

Hey guy's/gal's, noob here, got a question. What is the difference between the XRS and S heads? Can I just replace the cams and gears, or do I have to replace the whole head (case, gears, cams, ect...)? And will the XRS head assy. fit on the S motor? They should right, it’s the same motor... I tried calling my buddy at Toyota of San Bernardino who does the TRD Department and he said he wasn’t sure what the differences were. If anyone knows please fill me in.

I have a sweet silver 05 S, slowly but surly coming along. Hope to TRD it out! I did the stock black interior with some TRD red accents around the air vents, radio, shifter, gauge cluster and door panels. Still have a lil more to do, its looking pretty sharp. And went Limo tint all the way around with all the deck lid emblems off except the "toy" symbol and the "S" of course. And the tail lights are smoked with a clear over them, pretty sharp with what little I’ve done to it. I'll try and post so pics as I go along, and let you guys know what I have found out along the way.

the bolt pattern of the head on the xrs engine is the same, and that's about it. The xrs engine has a shorter stroke which enables it to rev higher. The only real solution is to replace the engine and transmission with the ones from the xrs, or trade in.

If your friend out in SB handles TRD, get yourself the TRD supercharger. It'd cost less than doing any exotic swaps and be covered under warranty. Performance would be about the same or better depending on how you feel about torque vs. HP.

Corolla engines aren't like civics where you can put Vtec heads on everything.

I was thinking about the TRD Supercharger anyways, but even with it I'll only get about 166 hp, 11 hp less the xrs motor. And, the TRD cold air intake will NOT fit onto the TRD S/C. That would be the 11 hp there to keep up with the xrs. I was just seeing what would be more cost effective. Maybe port and polish stock heads, TRD S/C and bigger injectors.
