    CAI filter

How often do you guys change them out? It seems that my filter gets very dirty and very fast!

I feel like this hurts my mpg, too. Does it?

For those who have or have had the el prototype cai, and tried to install their oem foglights, does it matter much that the foglight is in the way of direct air flow? Also the 6 inch long filter that came with it is a bit too long if you have the fog light in the way. As a result, my filter is forced to bend. Does it matter if I try switching to a shorter filter... 5inches and if it still bends, 4 inches? I figure that even with those lengths used by a stock 1zz, it should still provide more than enough surface area, eh? El Proto said you'd have to rev an engine up to 8400rpm to push the limits of the 6 inch filter. I don't know how that recalculates for the 5 and 4 inch filters.

You don't change them out. It should be a K&N filter. You just wash them and reoil the filter with the K&N recharger kits. You can clean them every other oilchange or so. It all depends on where you live and how you drive. The drier and dustier your area is, the more often you will need to clean it. All K&N's have a million mile warantee. Airflow won't really be affected by obstructions of the OEM lights. I changed out the 6 incher they gave me and replaced it with a wider 4 or 5 inch K&N. No problems here

i was actually gonna go with AEM dryflow if this 5 inch filter fits perfect. I dont want to have to reoil everytime I have to clean the filter..for K&N

When you reoil your filter, its pretty easy. It sprays on.

For the elprototypes, it requires a 2.5" inlet filter. How does the performance of the AEM dryflow compare with K&N? Oh and to the question as to whether or not you have to remove the bumper. You don't have to but its not easy. I hope you have small hands. I always remove the bumper when I recharge my filter. Its pretty easy. 5 bolts + 2 retainer bolts and it slides off.

I remember I did a K&N and AEM dryflow comparison and both are really good. I didn't see a 6inch 2.5" inlet for AEM dryflow but I did find one that is 5inch.

No 6 inch, yes.....but 5 inch, they have. AEM doesnt have anything in 6 inch for their dryflows anyway. Only 5's and 9's.

Let us know how it goes. I'm happy with my 5" long K&N right now. It gives a cool whistle it when I play with the throttle a bit.

    out with the old (6inch)

in with the new (5inch) it still doesn't fit and I dont think the 4inch would fit either. I'm just gonna stick with this 5inch and maybe switch back to 6 inch since im just going to keep the driver side fog light off.

Sweet filter bro. Yea, I was about to give you some input on my AEM dryflow. I installed it the other day and I feel like my car responds much better when I give it some gas. When I took the old filter out, it was so ridiculously dirty on the outside...but super clean on the inside. And then come to find out, my old filter was actually a dryflow filter too, lol. I just never realized it.

The reason the 6 inch won't fit is because the intake tube is too long to allow it enough room. I shortened the end about 3 inches with a hacksaw. The 6 inch filter fit perfect then but I still replaced it with a new 5 inch.
