    CAI and the midwest

I was at a local auto parts store today looking for a MAFS mount that I need to attach to my ELPCAI and obviously I couldn't find one. The guy at the store strongly asserted that CAIs are bad for the midwest where it snows a lot and the weather is almost always below zero for a looong portion of the year. Having a CAI at those low temps will make your engine run so rich that you will foul your plugs way too fast. Thats his claim,...comments??

i know some people who use CAIs during between spring and fall seasons. when it's flooding or snowing, they use short air intakes. maybe what you can do is modify your CAI so that the middle section of your intake can be removed durng stormy conditions. you'll still have the long pipe, but the front end of it won't be used during stormy conditions. and when it's time to go to the track or it's dry outside, plug insert the middle section for the CAI. I'd do that!! cut off the middle section, get some rubber couplers, and an extra air filter.

I was thinking of my ex girlfriend's 95 civic CAI. it cuts right in half and it can be a WAI or a CAI! a coupler at the cut (or middle) of the intake combines both tubes to make a CAI.

Well with the windchill factor and stuff, I'm sure the temperature has received below zero.

midwest in US? How cold is it in winter? Colder than us in Canada?
I live in Canada west so our winter is pretty warm, only like around -10'C to -23'C max. But I know it's a lot colder in other part of Canada and I don't see any problem about the CAI in winter. I think running too rich in winter is kind of bs unless your MAF or ECU is dead.

Does Injen have a CAI for the 98-02 rollas? I could use that for the winter and the ELP for the rest of the year, instead of the Injen SRI for winter.
