    Burning oil going down hills???

Okay I have a bizzare problem I cannot explain. My car runs fantastic and on flat ground I can punch it and no smoke comes out of the exhaust. However when I start to go down a steep hill blue smokes just billows out of my car and when I reach the bottom of the hill and hit flat ground again the blue smoke goes away? I'm completely confused. If the ring were damaged wouldn't it burn oil no matter what pitch my car was at while driving? If anyone knows what might be going on I would really like to know. I checked the PCV valve and its happy so I'm at a loss.

Its your oil rings. You get it only when going downhill because of the reverse pressure on the rings (when you're engine braking). You could slow it down by putting your car into neutral when going down hills.

What year, model, and what's your mileage?

Hell yeah that is a good explanation :) Its a 2001 Toyota Corolla S with 64k miles. How hard is it to fix the problem?

Dang, you shouldn't be burning oil with that few miles unless the engine never had it's oil changed or something.

Anyway, you need to have your engine rebuilt, basically. You could just have it reringed but if the oil rings are shot then probably the bearings on living on borrowed time too...

Well I tend to drive my car like a Ferarri Enzo and it appears that the stock 1zz-fe just isn't up for the task. Maybe its time for a new engine from MWR or something.

When you say that blue smoke comes out is it from the tip of the exhaust in the back or underneath the car and you see it come out? Maybe you have a leak somewhere that just happens to his the hot exhaust when the angle of the car changes and thus you only see it when the car is in a 15+ incline?

Just a thought, but you have to diagnose your car more, like take it to a mechanic and put it on a lift before you start thinking engine swap.

Since I purchased the car brand new I have changed the oil every 3000 miles or less. And I use Royal Purple or Amsoil full race synthetic. Plus now when I fire up the engine after letting it sit for a day or two it sounds like its only running on 3 cylenders real ruff and then I pump the gas a few times and it clears and runs on all 4. WTF?
