    1. if your car says DX on the back and it has power windows and other "fancy" stuff..then is most likely a 7afe motor-1.8L
    2. like dragonhunter said, ebay is the place for parts-theyv got quite a bit for our cars

    bunch of questions

my grandmother gave me her 94 corolla dx or ae102 i think.
so i want to "pimp my ride". haha.
but being that im still pretty new to the tuning scene i dont know that much about my car.
and the internet lacks info about my car.
so i have a few questions.
    1. is my engine 4afe, 5afe, or 7afe, because ive seen all three named as the engine for my car.
    2. im getting intake, but i dont know where to find a header or cams, exhaust i think i can find.
    3. does anyone know where i can find reliable info about my car.

all DX's and LE's have the 7afe. also, all the 4-spd autos are 7afe, not 4afe.

    1. dx is 7a-fe. only the base model rollas (95 and earlier at least) have the 4a-fe.
    2. put "performance parts" or something like that into google and you'll be looking thru sites all day. www.ssautochrome.com carries (or carried...not sure if they still do) a header for your car...that's where i got mine from. they have the cat-back too. ebay has lots of cheap intakes for your car too.
    3. ya have about 115 hp and 105 lb/ft right now if your car is unmodded (you're lucky...you got in before the OBD-II crap)

lol! Hk-racer, check under your hood and look at the sticker, it should say exactly what engine you have as well as what motor number, and VIN number, i actually have a 7afe distributor (it says it on it) but i have a 4afe motor, also, to tell for sure-your shifter should have a button on it- for overdrive, if not, its a 3spd 1.6L like mine...

not all and depends on which yr u bought... between 93-95 DX comes w/ 1.6L 4AFE and no pwr windows, locks or mirrors, the available stuff is only A/C, better seats and side moldings and an optional passenger airbag.... as for some 96 but not all cuz some 96 have LE model and all 97 DX comes in 1.8L 7A-FE w/ all power and nice seats, painted mirrors and moldings

actually, i think 94 dropped to 110 hp, but had 107 torque or something. I"m pretty sure that the 93 had the highest of the 93-97 hp ratings.

acutally, none of the 93's had passenger airbags i thought. i know our 93 does not.

i was under the impression our 93 DX had a 7afe, it has a 4-spd, not a 3 for sure. but it doesn't have power anything.

i'm 99.9% sure the only 93 with the 4a-fe is the base model. the DX and LE both have the 7a-fe

and none of the 93's have passenger air bags...that started in 94

"Though the automatic transmission generally works well with the 1.8-liter engine, it's slow to downshift for passing, unless you floor the throttle. The optional 3-speed automatic provided with the 1.6-liter engine is not only slow to downshift, it can be harsh at times." -what do they mean by the word "harsh" at times...like rough engagement? or "sucks ass?" or "horribly slow?"

probably that it isn't very smooth. When it shifts, it jerks probably. Not too sure, cuz i have the 7a mated to the 4-spd.
