    Breather filter do anything?

What is it suppose to do? is it suppose to help you gain a lil hp? cuz i heard so many things about it like it will make your car not pass smog, it's bad for your car, and that hp gain thing.

Are you referring to the crankcase filter? As in it replaces the hose that runs to the CAI?
If so, it's purpose is to release the hot gas from the crankcase into the air instead of recycling it into your intake. Theoretically it increases hp by reducing the air temp in your intake, but I think this is a really small gain at best. I guess it would depend on your environment (IE hot vs cool climate). I had it both ways on my last car and I noticed absolutely no difference between the two here in New Orleans.

As for if it will pass Smog? I don't know. If anything it reduces your emission because you are not recycling exhaust gasses. I guess it depends on where you are. Maybe it will fail because of a visual inspection?

    Hope that helps.

A crankcase breather is a filter used to filter fresh air coming INTO the engine. Currently it is in the form of a hose running from the valve cover to the intake. The PCV valve and hose assembly is what runs blowby gases (combustion gases that leak past the piston rings) back into the engine.. that ataches somewhere on the intake manifold PAST the throttle. A crankcase breather won't really benefit the corolla much, and will just create a hole on the intake that you will need to somehow plug.

i think vanion2 is correct bout the crankcase filter relieves the pressure built up in the crankcase. It DOESN'T filter the air going INTO the engine. The exhaust fumes from blowby, etc gets circulated back to your intake system through the hose. With the filter, it's just released into the atmosphere. Car manufactures use this because it helps lower emissions, something to do with nitrogen oxides inside the gases.

He was referring to the hose that runs to the CAI.. that is the crankcase fresh air intake. The "relief" or vent runs to the intake manifold behind the throttle body. The PCV system pulls fresh filtered air into the crankcase and recycles the combustion gases back into the manifold.
