    Birth mark removal

i basically have a birth mark on my chest...never thought of having it removed, until i went to visit my parents this summer. and my mom noticed that the color of the brith mark got darker( i thought it looked the same). i basically have a port wine birth mark. and now i've been thinking about removing thru laser. it's a pretty big one too, like the size of a fist. i was wondering if anyone has ever had a birth mark removed or knows someone? how is it and how much did taht person end up paying?

Depends on the type of birthmark - yours sounds like a vascular formation type of birthmark - Port-wine coloration and tends to darken with age (starts as a pink-red and darkens to a purple-red).

Someone in our office had one on their neck that they had removed (same kind, Port-wine stain - very common birthmark). I think it cost them about $500 - was about the size of two silver dollars. Did look pretty bad for about 3 weeks - turned all purple and everything, but it started to fade pretty fast after that.

Also they say to keep out of the sunlight (or use sunblock) and not to scratch. Takes about 3-6 months to fully heal - depending on the person.
