best engine to use for 90 corolla gt-s cpe

What would be the best engine to use for a 90 corolla gt-s coupe just dropping it in. Same mounts, exhaust hookup, ecu, etc. No modifications.

That already has a decent engine to start with - 4AGE. I'd just stick with that and mod that motor (more gains from working the original motor than costs associated with swapping in a more powerful engine), unless it got toasted.

toyotaspeed will correct me if im wrong.... but the late 90' and the 91' gts corollas had the highcomp 4age.... a very solid building block to begin with. if your 98 is a 5 speed the 90 might be able to keep up in a straight line, but in the corners and overall feel itll blow your 98 away. pick it up, thats low miles too.

yes.... 90-91 have the highcomp 4age.... it WILL beat a 98+ corolla (i've proven this). the smallport makes ~130chp, and factory rev limiter is around 7500.... the 90-91 also has 4 wheel disc brakes (and larger brakes than the 88-89).

on top of this, a 4agze is a fairly simple swap.

the handling of ae92's is more than surprising. i've kept up (and beat) many mr2's and ae86's on/off the track in handling situations... which is hard to do in a FWD car.

thing is though.... I noticed on www.edmunds.com that the 91 corolla has the 130hp engine but the 90 corolla only has around 103hp (something like that). And yes I am going to get it even though its located about 130 miles away from me. Im still waiting for the guy to answer my email. I found the car from autotrader. Also, Im probably not going to do this, but is it possible to convert this car to all wheel drive. I noticed you can buy the parts for this.

if you are looking at a corolla gts 1990, then don't read edmunds. it has a smallport 4age

Speaking of a 1990 Corolla GTS, a guy up here is selling one with 235 000kms on it, no rust on the car, but, it was in an accident, engine/radiator is good, but needs bumper/fenders/hood... tempting car...

    It has:
    eibach pro kit springs
    KYB struts
    2 1/4" exhaust
    ceramic coated hedders
    brake calipers rebuilt
    new clutch and master cylinder

Hes asking $1300 CAD Neg. (About $1100 USD)
