    Axle-Back Exhaust System

I just watched an episode of "Tricked Out" on the DIY Network. They were installing an Axle-Back Exhaust on a 2004 Toyota Matrix XR. Does anyone know if there is a Axle-Back Exhaust System for the 2003-2004 corolla?

there are plenty of axle back exhausts. in fact thats what most of the exhausts out for the corolla are. ex TRD. they just bolt to the flange right before the rear axle. the magnaflow however is a full catback and it comes with larger piping for less than the TRD

Borla is an exle-back, as is the aforementioned TRD. I believe the Thermal one is as well.

I've seen the borla "cat back" exhaust, and its from the axle flange back just as the TRD. I called borla and they said its from the flange back also. But still a good product as far as I'm concered

    Some points of clarification:

1)Both the axle-back and the cat-back products for the Rolla and Trix use 2.25" piping, as this is the optimum for either a NA or blown 4-banger

2)A cat-back exhaust provides more power than an axle-back simply because it replaces more of the restrictive factory piping.

3)The ideal low-restriction exhaust would be an axle-back coupled with a mid-pipe. This way, both the restrictive rear section and the restrictive cat and mid-section are replaced.

4)Headers are a separate issue, as the optimum design will depend on what sort of engine one has (NA, blown, or turbo).
