    Automatic to Manual Tranny Conversion

Okay I know this question has been asked before, but I haven't found the info I need in any of the old posts.
I've got an automatic. I hate automatics. And I know, I should've just bought a manual, but I didn't know much about buying cars two years ago so I believed the dealer's lies.
Anyway, I've saved up some money and, thanks to a link someone posted to car-parts.com I have access to manual trannys for less than $500.
I live in San Antonio (car repair places EVERYWHERE) so I'll be able to get the work done/do it myself for cheap, my question is - are there any parts on this list that I'll need to do the conversion that I've forgotten.

    Manual tranny
    Flywheel
Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, Throwout Bearing (if not included with tranny)
Clutch Master and Slave Cylinders and Hydraulic Lines
    Clutch Pedal and Linkages

I've got 2 grand to spend on this, and I'm very serious about the conversion, so any info is appreciated. Thanks

i dont know but when i wanted to do a 5 speed conversion to my 95 VR6 awhile ago i remember people telling me that i would need an ECU from a 5 speed...im not sure if the corolla is the same but its something you might have to consider. Gotta say I love my 5 speed corolla :D hope others chime in and help you out pal.

The ECU interchangeability issue has been raised before, but someone pointed out that the part numbers are the same for the two. I'll double check, though. Good call.
Another thing I was wondering is if the clutch assembly and master/slave cylinders would fit from Celicas, Matrixes, Pontiac Vibes, anything 1zzfe powered. It would be great if I could buy the tranny/clutch assembly from one of those places on car-part.com, take a trip to get it one weekend, and pick up all the other assorted pieces from junkyards here in town. Does anyone know if there would be a difference in the assorted manual tranny parts between those cars and ours?
Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Trade it in. You'll need at least double the money you have if you pay someone to do it and a lot of parts you didn't list.

Also, the block shape on an auto is different then a manual block which is meant for a manual tranny (trust me, just put a manual tranny on an auto motor from a Rolla a week ago). Dude, I would not do this at all. I just swapped my tranny for one with an LSD in it and you don't want to do that much work, trust me. I had to do it twice cause of the other car there as well, damn that was a ton of work. Not to mention, then you would have to run all of the lines, make sure all the pedals work, get the shifter cables through the firewall, etc..............................

It's not worth it dude, trade it in or sell it and buy a manual one, then use the 2K you have to mod it

So are you saying that the manual tranny won't bolt up to my automatic's engine? Or is the difference in block shape another hurdle that can be overcome? From what I've read about other people doing conversions, there are a lot of annoying little things but it's mostly stuff I'd be able to do. I plan on buying and installing the pedals, linkages, cylinders, hydraulic lines, etc.., while still using the car as a daily driver, then taking it out of commission for a weekend to actually install the tranny and fine-tune everything. I also don't want to trade it in, cause I've put many many hours into my car already. I understand that it'll be a whole lot of work, but I think it'll be worth it (unless there's some horribly tedious part of the process that you've run into that I don't know about). But then again, I know less about this than someone who's already replaced a Corolla transmission. Any pointers?

im pretty sure the clutches and flywheels are the same for all 1zz and 2zz motors...so you can use some that are designed for (celica gt, celica gts, matrix xr/base, matrix xrs, pontiac vibe, vibe gt, etc..) one that i hear a lot of praise about is the rps street clutch.

I've already looked into this and was going to do it but had to use the money for other things. Ur parts list covers all the main parts, u may need to buy some new lines/bolts, but those are not big buck items. I got quotes from 3 shops in my local area, and they are quoting me 1000-1500 for install guarantee working order. U must switch it out with only an 03 or 04 5speed, only ones that will swap. But the swap is very easy from what installers have told me.

My pointer is to not do it. It's more work than you think it is and it's practically impossible with one person, it's still damn hard with one who's done it before and another helping :?

You sound like you really want to do it though, so yes, a manual tranny will bolt up to an auto block but you can't use all of the bolts to put them together, some of the holes are off. And also, you need to make sure that you have more than a weekend to do it cause it will take about two full days to do this and probably more since you haven't done it before.

Only cause they have done it a ton of times before. But if it's so easy, why are they charging $1000-$1500, huh?

Seriously though, it's about 3-4K in parts and labor to make this swap, why not get a hella sweet turbo kit instead?
