ATTN DC area ppl. also those who live close to the Mexican border

    http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55199

They're calling for ALL truckers to protest by having a rolling blockade in major cities and highways. Here in DC they plan on going the minimum speed limit with rigs side by side at all hours of the day for 3 days. This is going to completely screw with rush hour traffic on 495 around DC.

I verified this with a co-worker whose husband owns and drives rigs. She said it was true and that it may even start on Sunday. She said Nebraska is having a huge protest as are other states who are not on the border with Mexico. They even asked for truckers to protest around state capitals, so if you live near the capital of your state, you may just want to have an alternate route to go to work JUST IN CASE it does happen around your neck of the woods.

around some of the highways i drive on, it says "no trucks on left lane." so if it was a two-lane highway and you have two trucks side by side (not using the left lane to pass the slower right lane vehicle), it would be deemed illegal then?

I would assume so. They wanted to completely stop traffic from what I was told but since thats not legal, they can't. in VA, MD and DC..there is no law that states no trucks in the left lane. if they do not use the left lane, I can only assume that they will follow each other in the right lane in a huge line of rigs. thats good enough to back up traffic.

that depends entirely on the road. i seem to remember parts of 95 in Baltimore with that sign.

All BS. Nothing will be effected by this.

And in those three states, its actually against the law to be in the left lane unless youre passing.

Dunno. if they do go through with this or even have more rigs then normal, I'm sure it'll cause backups. Not everyone feels safe driving around rigs.

And in VA or MD (can't really say DC cause I barely drive through there), I have yet to see a sign that says you can only be in the left lane for passing. Maybe there are some on the roads in MD but considering I barely drive by there, then I could be wrong. But in VA, if that was the case then people would be getting tickets left and right. And if it is against the law, they sure don't enforce it.

Edit: You're right about not driving in left lane, but nothing I read said it was illegal, just "Dont' be in it unless your passing". However, I never see it enforced and I still stand that I never see signs about it in VA at least.

If its one of those "its in the drivers manual" type rule, then I wouldn't know. Never got my license in VA..Got it in NJ.

If passing is not allowed and illegal, then it should be posted. NJ has those signs posted everywhere that the left lane is only for passing. If they can put up signs saying radar detecters are illegal, then no passing signs should be up to (at least in VA).

My point is that they cant post every single moving violation along the road.

Of course they are going to post up the radar detector law...they, along with DC, are the only states/commonwealth/district etc to have that law.
