The TWM shifter's lower extension is 0.4" longer than stock to reduce throw, and is 3.5" shorter than stock...A bit low for my height (6'1"). For better reach and feel, I installed the knob on a bolt welded to a nut to add back 1.5" in height, for a resulting 2" drop and a great improvement over stock.

uhhh, you didnt have to bitch at me for it. a simple "hey, just for next time dont post stuff like that" would have worked fine. i dont see why what i said compelled you to post what you posted.

There was nothing wrong with your post, exolyte...
Those TWM knobs look really cool for $10 less on the shifter/knob package, and are actually made of billet aluminum. They don't look very anatomical though and wouldn't be as comfortable as our stock vinyl knob, especially in cold weather...
Check out these great new TRD Japan black or white Duracon shift knob for $60 shipped! Light bulb shaped and made from duracon acetal copolymers, they come with two silver and black shift-pattern labels featuring a TRD Racing Development logo for Toyotas with a manual 5-speed or 6-speed.

It wasn't so bad... No adjustment is required, and it came complete with replacement clip. The hardest part was prying the teflon cap holding the shifter to the teflon base with a couple large standard screwdrivers, then snapping it back down with large hammer and flat piece of wood. I used Amsoil synthetic grease. Any good automotive grease will work.
The Nismo Duralumin (lightweight aluminum alloy) knob https://www.1stnissanparts.com/cata...9f62fdbf894d788 does looks similar to TRD'S Duracon knob but is flared out at bottom...

James -- is that the stock boot/fitting? I just installed a leather boot in my car (CE), and it doesn't fit as well as yours..

    lol it's cool.

cadetlee:: it's teh stock S shift boot, it's think pieces of black pleather stitched together with red fabric to match the S trim

the guy who asked what grease to use:: just grab some lithium grease and a grease gun and fucking let loose.

sxlostv:: i got that grex knob from racerwheel.com. it cost me 40 dollars. if you know people in asia you can get the knockoff version of this knob for around 5 dolalrs.
