Anyone done auto -> manual?

    Just wondering if anyone has done a conversion from auto to manual in a corolla?
    Most likely have access to all the parts from a manual tranny/clutch/etc. Just wondering if it is possible.

    4A-GE, or the supercharged 4A-GZE. That would be an easier swap, I'd think.

    7A-FE and turbo or possibly the G heads from the 4A-GE (can be done). The 7A with an auto is pathetically underpowered, but might not be so bad with a 5-spd.

    Whats the going price of a 4age or 4agze?
    And are they pretty hard to come by? (did some reading, sounds like they are few and far between - the 4agze that is)

    I've done it, it's not too bad, but it's best to do at the same time as an engine swap, otherwise it's lots of work and money... basically what I mean is, if you're doing an engine swap anyway, it's only going to cost you like $400 extra, but if you want to do just a conversion, it's probably going to cost you around $1000 including the tranny.

    That includes labor with me doing it by the way.

    I think I might tackle this job in the summer, that is if time permits. I have a neighbor who does nothing but auto work for the summer (fixing up and selling cars), and I'm sure I could get his help for awhile to do this (owes me for the welding i did for his turbo pipes :)).
    What is a good engine to swap to? (have a 96dx, 1.6L auto in there right now, with only 130km's on it). obviously I want something with a little more power...

    What are you talking about?

There's always at least one on eBay, and any engine importer can get you one. Just go to Google and type in "JDM engines" and you'll find a whole bunch. Venus-auto.com usually has a few and they have good prices.

Anyways, with the 4AGE swap you'll need to do the wiring which can be quite a job, and if you're going with a 4AGZE, you'll need to work out your intercooler (either cut a hole in your hood and get a scoop, or route a front mount intercooler), and if the engine came from an MR2, then you'll need to replace the shifter linkage stuff with parts from a FWD tranny. And if you get the 4AGZE from a Levin, then try to get the axles with it, otherwise it's all but impossible to get them.
