    They may, they may not.
    It kind of depends.

    It would be if I put a lift on my truck...and didn't pick up a longer shock. As soon as I attempted to start travel, the shock would bottom out.

    When doing suspension work, the best thing to do is get what you need in one shot, even if it costs a little more. ...pick up springs & struts at the same time.

    It depends on the condition of your stock struts. If they are in good condition, they may last another year without issue, but if they are already quite worn out, they may fail in 2 months with a lowered suspension. If you can't afford struts right now, buy the springs and hold on to them until you can afford the struts to go with them, you'll be happy you did.
