    Air Intake Question

As a first mod, is it worth it for me to get an AEM SRI for my '04 Rolla automatic? I want to avoid any possibilities of hydrolock and a SRI also provides better performance in the low RPM ranges compared to a CAI, right?

Also, if I were ever able to get my hands on an S/C, would the SRI benefit that as well? I've been looking and have seen people using just a performance air filter with their stock intake with an S/C, so maybe I should just get a TRD performance filter?

    Thanks for the help.

well, short ram "generally" isnt gonna mess up your low end torque like a CAI, but it will still do some "damage." the restrictive OEM design makes very good low end power-so you most definitely will lose some when going to SRI. but not much-the benefits of the overall powerband will be slightly better-but again-not much...going to cold air is great when you have an a full peformance exhaust system (header, cat-back, etc..) to back it up to feel the most power...(i dont know anything about S/C btw! )

also.. with SC in place, you really don't need a fancy intake.. just a filter.. the SC is gonna heat the air up anyway. ..

Thanks for the responses. So I guess there's no big difference between using just a performance filter on stock intake compared with CAI/SRI when combined with an S/C?

i like SRI but as civiceater says... $200 for 2hp is absurd.. a tube is a tube (as long as it fits) ebay SRIs are nice... bomz racing usually make a good tube... and combined with a K&N its pretty good bang for about $30 bucks.

i dun like CAI cause where i live we got horrible streets that flood up all the time... i wouldnt last a month with a cai

I paid about 100 bucks for mine (used ELP)..if you stomp on the gas, there's a slight delay while it starts sucking air in..but it sounds cool. :p

Yeah, CAI and SRI are just sound mods IMO....You are not going to get a gain off of it really.

actually-ive done a little comparison b/t the 2 types: SRI and CAI. SRI: during the summer months-it feels sluggish at times-especially going uphill-i dont feel that "liveliness" CAI: feels almost identicle BUT, i tried an experiment-i dropped the car in L, floored it-and it was rather slow, but at that certain rpm (dont have a tach) i felt IMMEDIATE pull-almost like V-tech! im certain i was just entering the powerband-but i did feel a difference-it might of have been the weather-it was cool and humid...or just my engine was in a good mood..i dont know..

I'm gonna go with a TRD performance air filter for my stock intake. It'll be something cheap to get me started in modding my car, heh. I don't think a CAI or SRI would have made much of a difference in 105-degree weather anyways.

2hp? you must be crazy. I dont know what type of CAI you are talking about. Thats what the drop in performance filter gives you. Thats is wrong. I got 11hp and 4 torque at the wheels with my TRD CAI. I dynoed at two diffrent locations, both gave me very similar numbers. Im looking for someone to scan the dyno, then Ill post.
