a question for the vinyl guys

This is a question for you guys that work with vinyl. I have a CE which has the doors color match the car e.g.

I'm thinking that if i buy some good quality flat black vinyl, i can cover the top of the door to look like the S e.g.

Do you guys think it would be an easy upgrade and do you guys forsee any problems going about it the way i've described? approx. cost? pretty much any input you guys have

They did not change that by model, but rather by year. I think the 98-99 had the door frames black, and in 2000 they went body color. They do that all the time to give the car a little change. I had them black in my 98 and it was a LE, and every 98 had them black as well. Anyway, vinyl is not going to look that good since you will have seams unless you get a big ass piece of vinyl and then cut it to size.

I would recommend painting it, but it may come out bad as well if not done professionally. I have done a few different things with vinyl, but I think that is one thing I would not do.

I wouldn't recommend a vinyl wrap on that. Maybe if it was just the two center frame pieces. You would have to remove all of the moulding and trim peices, basically take the door apart. If you do that you might as well just paint it. Paint will be more durable than vinyl. You can take your fingernail and rip vinyl. What would you do if that happened? You would most likely need to replace a whole section of vinyl. Even at an 8 year vinyl, your going to notice a degradation in a few years. It's black, in the sun and will heat up the adhesive. I would probably charge, oh... around $150. Give myself about 3 hours to do it. The other thing about the matte black vinyl is that the matte texture can be easily marred. Run something across it the right way and you'll have a glossy stripe. I think if it were my car, I would want to paint it, even though I can do the vinyl myself for free.
