best bang for your buck is to drive nicely, get 40 mpg and save your money. if you're dreaming about a turbo, you're wasting your time buying a cai

A few questions from a newbie

Okay all these question will be regarding a 2001 Corolla S 5 speed

Is there a mass produced S/C out there that will fit with no extra modifications?

    What about a Turbo?

If I am on a low budget how would a CAI compare performance-wise?

What would be the best "bang for your buck" performance parts cuz I'm kinda poor right now :(

CAI definitely won't give you the power that a turbo would, but it's a good mod to make.....ELP makes a CAI for your year, i believe, and you can always make your own with various sections of mandrel bent pipe. that's the way to go with lack of budget.

If you are on a budget. A turbo is out of the question. A CAI will give you some power but by no means major.

Nitraous is the best bang-for-buck, but its harsh on your engine.

So if I go NA for now and do CAI and headers and maybe a GReddy e-Manage, can I use the headers and e-Manage with a turbo if I get that eventually?

Hehe or lets play this game you have $800 to spend on a stock 2001 Corolla S 5 speed :) what would you get?

cat-back exhaust, CAI....get a header if you like, but you should look into a hi-flow cat...and not one of those resonated test pipes, either...

also look into a harder clutch....that's gonna cost you a lil bit, there....if you have enough, you could also look for a lightweight flywheel...

i'm not sure that you really need an e-manage, unless you plan on a turbo in the near future, but that's up to you...not really sure what it would do for an N/A engine

dont get a header or a cai if you want to boost eventually, because those parts will be replaced with a turbo manifold and intake charge pipes. plus you're really throwing away money on tiny shit like intakes and exhaust components if your ultimate goal is forced induction.. bolt ons will NOT make your car noticeably faster.

sometimes on our cars...performance isnt the focus....all that matters is sound!

not really...intakes for our cars really dont do too much but generate better engine sound...slightly more pep but i dont think they r worth it at all.
The only intake system period, that I think is worth a crap is the AEM v2 intake for a RSX---That thing is great!

    ^^^

and even that, only on te S.

btw, there have been various tests that have shown that even though on the first run it makes the same pwoer as a CAI on the first run, it suffers immensely from heat soak
