A buttom that closes all windows - EE experts please help:

I have been thinking for a long time that it will be much convinient if there was another extra switch next to the power window and what it does is fullly openning/closing up all 4 windows. Don't you guys think that it will be much easier than controlling 4 windows individually while you leave the car?

It's just a thought. I think it's doable but I don't know how. Since I have little knowledeg about EE, I have no idea how to start with this design. Maybe someone here could help, and I KNOW we have many brilliant minds here. 8)

well each of your four switches has 2 conducting points. one for open and one for close. i am assuming that it is just a matter of taking a 5th switch and connecting the open and close to the spliced ends on the other four switches. i'll post up a diagram later if it doesnt make sense to you. let me know

It does make sense. Well let me go check it first, and I'll post a diagram later if I could figure it out. Thank you.

Ok, I took of the control panel and found there are bunch of wires (14 totally) in the harness. Do you or anyone know the exact diagram and the color of the wires that corresponds to each switch?

You have to be careful with that approach or all five switches will end up making all of the windows go up. Sketch yourself a little schematic and you'll see why. You're probably going to have to throw 4 diodes in there somewhere.

i realize that. i saw the pix to the harness. there is quite a few wires. i have to find the wiring diagrams for the car to get any further. i'll ask the dealer to see if they have it or where can i get a repair manual that the dealers have????

I appreciate that. Anyway, am I the only one wanting this feature? In the summer time like now, I like to keep all the windows down while not using the AC. When I leave, I'll have to check if all the windows are up everytime and it's quite annoying. Maybe this mod isn't quite as simple as I expected.

its not hard at all, minor electrical work and knowing which exact wire it is. but the problem is where to mount the switch???

Some alarms have this feature... might be worth taking a look at how alarms can control the windows.

yeah i agree with that but that only works to open the window partiallly for ventilation. i think he wants to do it because that way he can raise and lower all four windows at the same time instead of waiting for one then the other. altough i put more thought into it and that might cause a rather load on the battery/alterntor. dont you thin. i mean there has to be a reason they didn't offer that other than it being a matter of personal choice

It may be seen as a safety hazard since you can't keep track of all 4 windows at the same time (kids might put their head through the window, pets, etc.). I saw a report on the news about those rocker switches (not the kind we have), they said that pets and kids would step on the switch while their head is out the window and well... you know what happens next.

I don't think that the load would be too much... I say this purely out of the basis that sometimes when I'm about to get out of the car I roll all four windows up at the same time and other than the fact that they roll up slower, that's about it.

Does the connector on the switch assembly look like this?

This is from a 1995 Corolla manual, but it's probably the same in the 2003. Toyota generally doesn't change their methods. It seems to be a pretty complex switch. If you want the contact info for the passenger and rear switches, let me know.

    Here's page 2 then.

I agree that it is very complex. Perhaps someone on the board has the wiring diagrams and could help out a bit???????

You're certainly looking at splicing multiple wires though.

From the dealer. I first bought a service manual for my old Supra - It was $140 dollars and everything, including wiring diagrams, was in it. Then I bought this one for the 1995 Corolla for $200, only to find out that the wiring diagrams weren't included. That was another manual for more $$$. For the 2003 Corolla, the service manual comes in two volumes ($200 each I believe) and the wiring diagrams are yet another manual. Toyota's really starting to get pricey for manuals. I'll buy them eventually, but only when I really need them.

Was it $600 on ebay? I'll bet the dealer is a bit cheaper than that, but I could be wrong.

I like the idea, especially if it is hooked to the wireless remote. Temps here in south central Texas can get pretty outrageous. This morning I couldn't sleep & at 4AM it was 82 degrees. Sounds like a mod I would be interested in.

from what i make of it, we're gonna have to splice each wire from each switch in order to make this work, sound like a whole day project to me. i donw have power windows so its kinda useless for me to do it. what do you make of it????
