    99 corolla cluster swap

I'm thinking about swapping my current cluster with one that has a tach. I've been doing alot of research and I heared you have to swap the odo and speedo to get your current odo reading. Now I have some questions

    1. The 99 corolla cluster swap is that plug and play?
    2. Does the tach need to be wired up differently or does the current harness provides the signal for the tach to work?
    3. I heared different versions of tach, white face, red needles etc... for my year car is it just black?
    4. How hard is it to swap out the odo and speedo? Do I need to take out the whole thing together?
    5. Any complications by doing a swap? speedo needed to be calibrated? defogger not working? signal light? head light? or is it direct swap with no problem?
    6. Anybody got some pics that they took during the process of the swap?
    7. Anything else I need to know about?

thanks any help is very much appreciated

I'm thinking on doing the same since my damn gas needle went incredibly crazy on me and I dk how it happened lol I think it's all plug and play.....the only delicate part would be to switch the odometer and the speedometer I'm guessing....

I did it on my old car. It was really easy.

    Here's the answers
    1. Yes, it is.
    2. No, nothing else need to be done.
    3. White face, red needle is from some special edition LE. And there's another one that is black face, red needle from a corolla S. And another one from normal stick shift corolla that is black face, white needle. It's up to you what kind you are getting.
    4. Just need to remove the screws behind it, then you can swap them.
    5. If you take out the needle when you doing it, then you need to recalibate it. Everything should be working fine, but I think you need to do something if you got one from 01/02, but it's fairly simple.
    6. Sorry, I dont have any pics
    7. Fill up your gas tank before you do it.

It's not really white face - hehe more of a silver/grey face. :)

will that work on my 99 corolla VE? I originally have black guage with white needles, do I have to take that black guage and replace the whole wthing with that white guage face?

no, just do a straight cluster swap. the only issue with that is the mileage thing... mine says 113K - you may be able to swap out the odo however - either or the thing will work fine. Came out of a 98/99 series Corolla. You *will* want to use the clear piece from your guage cluster tho as when I got my 99 the clear piece was smudgy so I swapped it with my old one. --- nothing major - takes all of a minute, lol.

    7. take your battery out before taking the plugs out of the old cluster, coz i heard that if you dont, the airbags are going to be disabled... (is this true?)
