    93 gas vs 89 gas

On a 00 rolla wit a vvti engine does anyone know if 93 gas actually is better then 89 for our cars?

All the pumps in PA or at least my area have 87,89,93 and sunoco's have 93 and 94 octane.

I put 93 in but idk if i should switch back to 93. I've been using shell's new V Power* 93 that supposedly cleans ur engine... Its also the cheapest 93 i can find. 2.03 per gallon.

    So any comments

Yup, it built to use 89. Even tho you out in 93 for it, it still treats it as 89. So whats the point of wasting your money?? You should be happy you can use 89. I have to use 91 or higher, that means 93. I hate pumping gas.

I rock the 87 octane, and it's great.

lol, hey man, it's better than paying 20-30 cents more per gallon on stuff that won't make a bean of difference.

I wish I can find a place with 91. All the gas stations here only have 87, 89, and 93. I want to save some money. :( :(

i would just stick w/ 87 or 89... imo 93 or 94 they burn up faster and use up faster than 87 or 89

Yea, you actually get lower gas mileage using higher octane gas.

Is that comparing your old corolla to your current one? Cuz I dunno if it'd be fair to say you burn more gas because of the octane level. Most high octane cars don't get good gas mileage anyways. They're overpowered sports or luxury cars.

Well, all i'm asking is if it's based on comparing stock figures for cars, one set for the low octane guys like corollas, then one for the high octane guys? Or if they just ran the two types at in the same car?

i get shitty gas mileage right now. I get 210 on my tank i run it right b4 the light turns on or just as the light turns on i put more gas in. I put 93 gas. I guess i'll run 89 for a while

It applied to any cars. I wasnt comparing my current one and my old one. I read it somewhere that higher octane gas get less mileage than low octane gas.

I think you should get more than that. You shouldnt be too happy for what you are getting right now. 26 city and 30~31 highway is what I am getting right now in my XRS.

Actually 93 or 94 are HARDER to burn. With our not so high compression and not high rev engine, it's just a waste.

    And probably faster, too. :p

    I run 87 octane..works beautifully. If I plan on spraying, I run 93 to be extra-safe.

same here. probably cause my engine is getting old with over 208,000 miles on it. Well now I guess I'll just stay with regular cheapo gas now and save pennies also cause I put 93 once in a while thinking it makes my car perform better.

well everytime I fill up I reset the trip meter. Everytime I get half empty I already drove around 150 miles. Most of the time its around 10 or so miles over. Then the lower half my mileage doesn't keep going for another 150. Everytime I drive it from full till the light is on and needle is on the empty line I don't even get close to 300. My most I can remember is like 260. Must be because of the minor bolt ons I installed, my leaking exhaust system and faulty O2 sensor.

I usually don't reset my trip, so I never know how much i'm getting, but when I first had my car I did do it...I usually got around 325-350 on one tank of gas.
