91 corolla stalls and won't restart

i park my 91 Corolla with 1.6 litre fuel injected engine facing down steep hill. Sometimes when I start it on cold mornings and let it idle to warm up, I come back out to find car is stalled and won't restart. Problem seems fuel related, as i had a friend spray starter fluid into tube leading from air cleaner and car ran rough until spray stopped, and then car stalled again and would not restart. I have added dry gas, replaced the fuel pump, relay under hood and relay in dash that switches power to fuel pump from startup mode to normal operating mode. i also had tank inspected to ensure no blockage, including from shifted baffles. I had car towed three times, and each time it started and ran fine on level surface. Gas level was 1/8 tank first tow, 1/4 tank second tow and 1/3 tank third tow. Running out of ideas and money and would appreciate any suggestions. This car is my everyday ride to work, and I really need to get it running reliably. Thanks....Bill
