3 point, 4 point, 5 point WTF!!??

neway say i get some racing seats or wutever which harness would i be able to use without a rollcage, i have an idea that the 5 point is for full on race applications, regardless on the jc whitney catalog they were selling some harnesses that said "for street use only" does this mean they have slack on them like the stock belts? b-cuz some people say that with harnesses you cant even pick sumthin up off the floor without takin em off

u can use whatever Bolt on or Clip on for no rollcage. 3 point is just ur shoulder part connected together. 4 point is where over ur shoulder need 2 bolt point. 5 point is with teh crotch strap. and when they say for "street use only" , they probably mean its not approved for track. if u got a harness on, u cant even look over ur shoulder. not really safe for street use.

sparco sells a 3point harness with a belt pretensioner just like an oem belt. spendy though.

keep in mind, your backseat is useless with ANY harness without a harness bar.

4 point harnesses are nice tho for rolling over...u have no chance of your head landing on the roof of ur car, or if u have a convertable...the ground. the 5 poin w. the crotche is so u dont slide down in the seat.

yes you can, just get a set of Schroth harnesses.

Not to mention they're FIA and 100% street legal.

I heard that when connecting a harness in the rear of a car, it's important not to have the straps going at a downward angle (as in towards the bottom rear seat cushion). Apparently if you get in an accident, the downward angled angled strap can push down on your shoulders and cause spinal injury. Definitely don't want that... It's safer to have the straps run parallel to the ground as much as possible.

    Anyone else ever heard this?

yea thats true, dont have it go vertical down to the back of your front seat (show car style) just to have the rear seats free for occupants. If you go to any race event with your harnesses set up like that, they guy who'll tech your car would laugh his ass off!

The proper way is either to use a harness bar, roll cage, or bolt them to your stock seatbelt locations.

that's not really the reason why you don't want the straps to go downwards instead of back..

it's for the structural integrity of the seat. .

Well something that causes harm by pushing down on the seat will probably cause harm to your back too, wouldn't it?

sure, but your original post tried to state that if you pull down on the belts it pulls down on your shoulders which is hilarious, because the belts pass through the holes in the seat first, meaning the SEAT takes all of the downward force, not your body.

This guy really has a thing for starting arguments...

In fact it is bad for your spine. If you're tall or depending on the design of the seats, the straps might put pressure on your shoulders instead of the seat back. If you disagree, try it the wrong way and see what happens.

No, hes saying that your logic wasnt correct......yes, youd rather have the straps running parallel to the floor over having them angled down....but not for the reasons that you were stating. If it were so bad for your spine, then NASCAR drivers wouldnt be using them at speeds over 200mph, even with the Hans and Hutchens devices.
