if your swapping the engine jus do the 6spd tranny too. Your auto tranny would be pulled out anyways...wats the point in putting it back? Go turbo...its cheaper!

the swap, as supershyguy has proven, is pricey unless you do it yourself...you'd need essentially a donor car or a wad of cash to get all the parts. at the least you'd need the wiring harness/motor/drivetrain...ecu is a necessity...lots of other stuff too. don't forget better axles to handle more power...and i agree with Lekz, the tranny swap would be easiest done then.

expect to spend at least $4k for all that...and then comes the install. you have to fabricate your own motor mounts and a few other parts...your stock exhaust probably won't work well with the motor, so you'd need to upgrade that for better airflow...

all in all, it's an expensive venture. it's also rather time consuming...and tedious in some aspects. it's the tedium that's kept me from getting mine in the car...because i know it'll take me longer than we expect, mostly because of the mounts and trying to fit the drivetrain in the car.

if you decide to do this swap, good luck.

ive found 1...very expensive. Get a torque converter and go turbo. More power...for alot less.

why is the "ecu a necessity".... nobody has tried to run a 2zz-ge of a 1zz-fe ecu so nobody knows if it would work.... i'm assuming all sensors are the same, the tps is the same, both are vvt motors.....

people said it wouldn't work between a 4a-fe and a 4a-ge... and i ended up making more whp than most ae86/92's using the 4a-fe ecu (and i have a bad 4age!) on my 4age...

ya can't say it won't work unless someone has ACTUALLY tried or done it

well in that case, you're almost better off getting another car...unless you get REAL lucky and have friends who are machinests or really good mechanics, you'll pay about as much for the motor swap as you'd pay for another car.

besides, he has an auto, and if he keeps his 1zz ECU, wont that mess with the shifting in some ways?

if he kept the 1zz ecu it would allow him to keep the automatic tranny.....

can't you just disengage vvti or vvtli alltogether? that would have less restrictions on what you can or can't do to the motor....

I don't think so. I think that might require you to remove some engine parts.

toyotaspeed - i know someone who HAS tried it, and it didn't work. he's the same guy who's helping me with mine...and he made a point to tell me that my ECU will not work for the same reason mentioned by 02RSX.

ah... 2zz must be vvtli..... still, either way.... find em at a junkyard... i can't see the demand for them being that high since all the cars with them now are still running just fine....

because u couldn't operate lift, and u'd lose all the rpm's above 6450 or whatever. So basically, u'd have a regualr 1ZZ.

why would you spend all that money to swap in a 2zzge and disable vvtLi? the lift is where that peak hp comes from
