2V vs 5.5V outputs!?!

2V vs 5.5V outputs!?!

As nobody replied to my first thread (topic 3241), I'm asking the question again!...

What difference does a 5.5V output makes to a 2V one...

Please give reply ASAP, I'm ordering my new HU tomorow :mrgreen:

depends on the amp some like a higher preout voltage. some dont. ask the people where you are buying the hu and amp from as to which one he would recomend.

welcome. i remember back when i got my first stereo that my rockford fosgate amp did not like a powerfull pre out for some reason but when i sold it i got a kicker and it loved the high preout

I got my answer, my amp takes 0 to 2 Volts inputs... so the 5.5V output is useless for me... I'll order the 2V/MP3 head unit!

sounds good i liked that one better anyway. i love having a mp3 player in my car really good for long trips.

Walt77 that's the same head unti I have, except I have the next model down (doesn't play MP3, so I got the CD changer that does). Except for the they're the same. You're gonna love it!

5 volt preamp outputs theoretically raise the signal above the "noise floor", meaning the cables between the HU and the amp will still pick up noise, but it'll be so far under the signal level the amp won't notice it.

Don't see any harm in it, but a better solution is just better cables, IMHO. Besides most noise comes in through the power side anyways.

Good move. It's incredible what good cables (well shielded cables) make when you run them 15 feet in a enviroment as electrically noisy as a car.

make sure its all outputs are 5 V, some decks that say that are only sub output at 5 volts and the rest at the standard 2.4V... or some like the pioneer and balanced output kenwoods can do up to 8 volts... but in fine print the kenwood can only make 8 volts with a Kenwood model amp capable of the balanced line input... most amps will take any voltage you give it and love every second of it, IE fosgate, or most american amps...
