    2004 to 2005 Changes

    List of 2004 to 2005 Corolla Changes that I could put together. Most notable is coded entry keys and the CAN ECU (Controller Area Network)

    1ZZ-FE

    Charcoal Air Canister Filter
    Drive by Wire
    Fuel Tank Material changed
    IAC (Idle Air Control Removed) replaced by ETCS-I (Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent)
    H2OS sensor heater
    Lots of EVAP changes
    Engine Immobilizer
    ECU function is different (different I/O lines)
    Associated sensors with the new drive by wire system
    Traction Control
    VSC
    Added EVAP canisters
    Fail-safe for drive by wire
    Super Long Life Coolant (100K miles vs 30K)
    Engine weight increased from 233.7lbs to 246.9lbs due to emissions equipment
    EVAP Rating LEV-II vs LEV-I

    2ZZ

    aluminum head cover
    oil passage in vvtl-I system to spray cams directly
    new water jacket routing
    upright intake ports
    cylinder walls made from MMC Metal Matrix Composite
    other friction and efficiency changes

    Stereo can come with an integrated amp or is available with a JBL external amp
    EBD, Brake Assist, VSC, Trac

    C60 Transmission – 6 Speed
    Reverse mis-shift lockout (handles 1st and 2nd gear)

    Does the Charcoal Air Canister Filter work in earlier models. maybe it can filter out the sulfur smell. :?

    [IMG] As for fitting, yes. The sulfur smell... probably not. That's the gas.

    yah it is the gas. I was reading the recall on toyotas website. To much gas mixture is going into the cat.

    I remember fighting toyota about the issue back and forth. They kept telling me it was my air filter or my a/c. Though i never use my a/c so thats impossible. :roll:

    actually there is a TSB on corollatoys for certain VINs.........mainly the early 03's where they're finally taking blame for the egg smell. They'll replace your cat and reflash the ECU covered under the 80k emissions warranty.

    is that why we're not getting the fuel mileage that we should be getting?
