Engine 2003 engine --> 2001

2003 engine --> 2001

So okay the parts recycler guy gave me an 03 1z engine instead of a 00-01. I am trying decide amongst several options:

1. try to separte the head/upper engine parts and use the 03 bottom end.

2. try to put that whole 03 engine in.
- but how much wiring will need to be changed?
- do I have to change the ECU?

It LOOKS like the ECU on the 01 is the same as 03 ZZ AND it is flashable. If the wring harness hooked up, maybe i could get away with flashing the 01 ECU (but how similar are the parts?)

3. take the damn thing back and look for an 01-02 engine

Has anyone done this? or is it all just theroetical?

Dr Tweak seems to think that a full engine swap would be the easiest and would require little wiring change
