    2002 Corolla Engine into a 1999

    Hi,
I have done minimal research on this question, but am in a time crunch.

Correct me if I am wrong, but all 98-2001 corollas come with the 1zz-fe. Only difference is that 2000+ have variable valve timing.

    My predicament:

Two days ago my wive totaled our 02. We recently took it off of full coverage and are out a car. engine and tranny are both fine.

I have found a local 99 with a blown engine for dirt cheap.

I'm under the impression that all parts are exact bolt up with only needing to change the engine, ecu, and wiring harness?

tranny is the same? Def a rookie Q, but will it matter if i am going from an auto to a five speed?

    How easy is the swap?

Correct. If you match the 02 motor with the 02 ecu and harness, everything will work. Transmissions are are compatible.

its possible to do this swap and should be fairly easy like remove and replace kinda thing,as for the auto to manual you probally need a 00-02 ecu 5spd.

If you're going to do it yourself, you can buy the wiring harness converter from Dr. Tweak. Its kinda expensive, something around $400-500, I think don't quote me on it. But its definitely possible. Plu did the swap from a 2003 into his 1998. Good luck.

he dont need a wire harness because all he doing is buying a 99' rolla shell and dropping his 02'vvti engine with the 5spd tranny.plu had to buy a wiring harness for his 03' motor just because 98-99' doesnt have vvti.

right, he's buying a 2002 vvti engine for a non-vvti 99 corolla. It might be from the same generation but there might be some slight changes where the sensors plugs into the dash harness or where the dash harness plugs into the ECU. Best to consult with tweaks regarding this.

I think Xplicit is saying that he has all the wiring he needs from the donor car. That would make sense. But I'm almost sure the wiring is different for 8th gens with and without vvti.

"his wife totalled there 02'corolla(vvti) and now he found a 99'corolla(non vvti) with a blown motor so now his planning on buying the 99' corolla with the blown motor and removing the 99'motor and swapping the 02'motor into the 99'corolla body"so he dont need any wiring harness sense his transfering the 02'corolla engine, tranny, wiring harness and etc to make the car run to the 99'corolla body.:D

That does not change anything. He is still swapping a 02 corolla motor into a 99 as I mentioned above. Some 01-02 corolla uses a updated 4 plug 34-35-35-31 ECU pin-out while all 98-99 corollas has a 3 plug 26-16-22 pin-out. The 99 corolla has a 22 pin harness coming from the body/dash wiring harness that will plug into a 98-99 ECU - which will not plug into the 01-02 ECU. So as I stated before, either the body/dash harness need to be modified/re-pined or the engine harness has to be modified to be compatable with the body/dash harness.
