    2000(VVT-i) vs 98(1zzfe?)

my question is I test drove a 2000 prizm today and I noticed that when I punched it, it wasnt as fast as the 98 prizm that I have now. However I know about the valve timing and all that but could that be a reason? Usually in my 98 I can take 2nd up to 45 if I wanted but in the 2000 it seemed like it was hesitating. The clutch did seem a little stiff though because when I would downshift at around 35-40mph from 4th to 3rd it always grinded no matter how far the clutch was in. My question is could the clutch be the reason why its not as responsive or is the VVT-i more restrictive for a reason???thanks for anything

1st at 30mph? that'll grind gears every time.

cprism: there might be somethng wrong with that 2000 you drove today.

I think there is something wrong with the 2000 Prizm... there isn't a big difference betweent he non-vvti and vvti when driving around, but the vvti does seem to pull slightly harder (comparing a 98 to a 2001 here)...

ya my 01 never grinds downshifting into third so id say there may have been something wrong with the car you drove. also my car never really hesitates at all in second. i can get it all the way past 6grand with no problem
