Yeah I was looking at that the other day. The AFM is mounted to the airbox, what happened to the good ole days when you just took this pipe here, and block that vacume line there, and wala your intake was on. On present day cars, I sware you about have to remove some sort of sensor or meter just to open the hood.

LOL, We swaped my buddy Jerry's 92 mirrage hatch to 4g63t last year. The hardest part of the whole swap was the auto to manual conversion. We had to find the Shifter, linkage, and clutch pedal and assembly from a 89 Mirrage turbo, or colt GT. No one told us those where RARE CARS. LOL it took most our time finding the parts, even then it was a bitch punching the hole for the clutch pedal and fine tuning the linkage. Now just imagine one of these newer cars with basically the same process involved, but now toss in a Giant web of computerised shit that need each other to work for the whole system to work. One word Pain

It's a very reliable engine, In general the corolla was just a good manufactured car. I had an 81 corolla 1.8 lt in high school. I had about 350,000 miles on it and it didn't even burn any oil. It was a good car until they stole it =( Damn thieves

    1zz-fe opinion?

Ok I love my 04 rolla, but I am just a really hard driver and I put ALOT of demands on my cars, I go auto X in winston in the summer and from time to time I like to go to Hickory NC to cruse and maybe catch a stoplight race with some other car. I just want to know I have 2601 miles on my rolla as of now, and I know Toyota will last almost a lifetime, but what is your expert opinon of the 1zz-fe engine, What's it's strong point and weak points, and is it reliable even with occasional abuse?

its a good strong engine stock...its weakpoint is the oil warning sensor. IT doesnt tell u until its too late and i learned that the hard way. So always check your oil.

good, Like I said I only have 2601 miles, but I would like to know that I could break the engine before it happens, So far the weakest point I have seen would be the axles, which doesn't bother me too much. I have raced a couple people shifting gears right before the rev limiter kicks, and done more than a few late night Topend runs (Just excited that I got a BRAND NEW car) I just don't want to push it too much and break it, but from what you said sounds solid.

you won't be able to break anything stock to stock on any car. Of course unless you run into something or crash.

Thats what redline and rev limiters are for. Change oil regularly. I have redlined on my corolla and hit the rev limiter so many times on my corolla its not even funny. It lasted till 30k miles and i totaled it (took a corner to fast and didn't notice).

But not once did i see lag, loss of gas milage or any signs of anything :)

Thats good, I am just wondering because the other night I was racing in Hickory I had a 1/4 tank of gas trying to save on weight. I just wanted to see how good this thing could do. I race a couple people have some fun, well anyway I start to slow down to stop at a light ahead. I hear the RPM's sound rough, I come to the light and the engine starts to idle pretty rough, I tap the gas and rev it a little and the RPM's settle out to normall, I looked at the gas gauge and it had one little notch above empty. It hasn't done it sence but I am always causious of the little noises or odd things my cars do, So I was just wondering if that was something racing caused, or maybe (this is what I think) There was some trash in the tank and it being almost empty tried to block the flow of fuel to the engine. But it hasn't done it since, I am just being protective of my 18G investment

Yea, if you have a intake, just be wary, my car at times, like when its raining or really cold will have a rough idle and even stall out if im not careful.

hm, It might have something to do with the engine warm up cycle. My Supra used to stuter and try to die right after hard runs or first thing on a cold morning. I was partually the ICV,(Idle control valve) and I was running a blitz BOV so when shifting it was tricking the MAF and the ECU was trying to fix a problem, that wasn't even really a problem.

I have an SRI and live in New Orleans (lots and lots and lots of rain) and have not had that problem. But then it never gets really cold here so that may have something to do with it. ;)

I think with the water it would only be a problem with the CAI's seeing as there located outside of the enginebay, Waterloc, all I have to say. It's so importaint to get a breather valve put on your intake.

Just be religious with your oil change and maintenance. I have about 18k on mines, and I run mines hard all the time. I do use Mobil 1 synthetic with the mobil 1 oil filter. I know a friend that doesnt even maintain his car that well and has 95k on a 02 1zzfe. And drives much rougher than I do.
