    1999 exhaust leaks again

    1999 Corolla exhaust leak

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have another exhaust leak on my 99 corolla that is coming from where the manifold meets the pipe that connects to the cat. It is held together with 2 springs clamps and bolts. I know what the repair involves since the dealer replaced 2 spring clamps and a donut(bushing) at a cost of $300.That was 2 years ago!A lot of people on this site had problems with exhaust leaks on 99-2002 rollars. What do you think,a design fault?Cost for the same repair is over $300.

word to the wise: for exhaust repairs, go to an exhaust shop...not the stealership.

Thanks guys,I will get it fixed at a muffler shop this time and not at the dealer. My old car had a slip joint system where all pipes were held together by U brackets and muffler was welded.Don't know why Toyota use spring clamps and donuts...that makes it more complicated for a doityourselfer like me.

Its always been with clamps and gaskets. How else can you replace a part if the whole thing is one piece?
