Thanks for posting. Very nice read. Unfortunately, even during the peak of Supra during 1993-1998, it was still not taken for what it was worth because of the rusting problem in the 80s and 70s Supras. Toyota had spent years of research and development to make this car, but the stereotypical thinking killed it. That is what led to lower than expected sales and ultimate demise of the king of all sports cars. It was a few laters that people realized what an excellent super car it was with virtually no rust on the newer models and virtually limitless performance. Now that Supra does not exist anymore, it has become a legendary sports car that left behind a legacy that will put the American muscle cars to shame.

RX 7 = > rotary engine = > much lower engine life expectancy = > high maintenance costs

God the old corvette was ugly. But let the past stay in the past, the "hey-day" of these cars is gone, 350Z, STi, Evo, G35, RX8 will take us into the next generation of import sports cars.

A lot of people and critics blame the SUV for the demise of the Supra and several other cars like the 300ZX, RX-7, and 3000GT.

I remember that article and also have that magazine and many more after that. It reminded of the days when all I used to do was run to the library and read the car magazines. I miss those days as well as the days the supra was the master of all masters. In my heart, it still is. Thanks for the memories.

hahahahaha faisal says the supra didnt sell because supras in the 70s and 80s rusted lol

i think it was the rising cost and toyotas eagerness to make a buck instead of stretch one to support the supra

Yeah, my analogy is correct. Supra was actually one of the cheapest super cars of it's days. It was priced around $37K fully loaded. Corvetter was a lot more. So was Camaro. You want to talk making a buck. Check that crap inefficient Acura NSX out. That stupid BS Acura NSX sells for 150K, which I have seen Supra smoking in no time. Guess what?? Supras are the best sport cars for holding their value more than any other sports car.

actually the NSX is 80-90k, still way overpriced, but not 150k

i agree with turbo, the supra was overpriced for what it was from teh factory

if you read the article it sats $40,890 for a base and $43,743 for the one they tested which lacked the targa so it was cheaper than a fully loaded version

that barely sub 45k pricetag in 93 is 5 to 7k less than a brand new ZO6 corvette........ im not seeing how that is CHEAP....... and the build quality is top notch

and i dont think ive ever seen rust on a 4th gen supra
