first off-do you know what the diameter of the pipe is? b/c thats an issue trying to fit it in the fender hole-which is about 2.2ish inches...unless your mechanic is prepared to use a dremmel tool and open up the hole a bit- check out this site-itll help alot-print out the pics as reference-remember to make a hole for the IAT sensor. http://www.benreedjohnson.com/Corolla/cai/

is your battery covering the hole? b/c if it is-i dont think youve got much choice-you have to get rid of the battery plate-(the plastic under it) and rotate the battery about 100 degrees-angle it-just like my pvc intake pics.. im sure you can route some piping down there

no, the stock intake has a resonator thats inside the fender-w/ a CAI, your stickin a filter on a pipe routed there-which is a lot more efficient than the oem plastic that opens INFRONT of the battery towards the grille where air is rammed up it...

I used a 2" pipe to fit in the hole, better air flow as well

Once the stock airbox is gone, there's plenty of room to run the pipe past the angled battery. The only difficulty really comes with opening up the hole that goes to the fender.

Since the stock intake goes down into the same place we're trying to route the CAI, why isn't it more efficient? I assume it's cause of the stock filter element.

lol nah i wont give up that easily. ill do the mod.
i got my master cylinder replace cuz it werent work right. the braking was bad. at first i though it was the brake pads, but it turns out it was the master cylinders.
then i got my calipers rebuilt, cuz some dumbass mechanic didnt finish the job cus he went home. and all this cost me about $300, and im not very happy about the price.
