well, i would def go with 16 inch rims, but as far as changing suspension, there's no need to=no rubbing will result...unless of course, you wanna reduce the wheel gap-which will greatly increase the bigger the wheel you get.... ive got hankook ventus 205/40/16, and i have no rubbing whatesoever..

    15" or 16" wheels on a '99 Rolla?

    Hi,

I just dug up an old TRD catalog I had and was flipping through it. They show a TRD'd Rolla in there, with all the packages applied... I was wondering though, we want to change the stock steelie wheels of the Rolla to something larger, originally I was recommeded 15" wheels, but in this Catalog I see that the wheels are 16" with 205/45VR16 Tires, if I were to do that size would I have to change the strut/spring set becauuse I really don't want to change anything but the wheels. and if I go with a 15" wheel what tire size should I use?  I would like to try and use the Yokohama Brand tires... that is a bit flexible.

    Thanks a Bunch! :D  :D  :D

You don't need to change anything else as long as you:

1)are not trying to put anything larger than 17's on the car

2)have the right wheel with the right offset

3)and the right tire with the right width and height

If you buy the 16" wheel and tire package from TRD (you can find this same set much cheaper off of ebay or vpower.net if it ever comes back up) you will have no problems at all (I know, I used to have them before I had anything done to my car and had no problems, the car handled a lot better though). I would say get 16's cause they look nicer and the car will handle a little better than with the 15's.

Actuallly it's not for racing, since it's my GF's car, she just wants to change to a larger wheel. and get some of the higher rated tires for grip in all weather to avoid sliding so much.

So if I go with 16" wheels then the tire size, 205/45/16 should work fine right?

    Thanks

If you ask me, i'd go with the 15 inch cause tires for 16's cost so much more thnan 15. Somewhere around 30$ more per tire.

well ive got 40 series right now (looks better IMO)...and it not that bad- i thought it would be worse as far as comfort- of course its not as nice as my old 60 series..but its ok...bumps on the highway sometimes can send quite a shocker up your ass though..

Yea there is a difference cause the sidewall is different.
I amd running a 40 seris tire and yea the handling is good, but the ride is harsh even before I dropped her

Agreed--40 series tire looked better and gave me better handling, 45 series didn't look all that bad and gave me a better ride but the car didn't handle as well. I like a good looking car that performs well and could care less about a bump ride so I chose 40 series. I do know if you have a 16" wheel though, that you maintain the same overall circumference of your tire if you use a 45 series though which means you won't have any speedometer problems or stuff like that so I would prolly suggest a 45 series in you are just getting 16's.

Agreed, but if you really want to be sure that you not going to mess up your speedo you have to do the right plus sizing.

www.tirerack.com can do that very well, all you have to do is pick your car and when the tire size menu comes up you scroll down a bit and you see the plus sizing they do.

I use 205/45/16's ... I think its a good combo of looks/comfort.... some people have said it makes the 16's look small... but oh well.. its my daily driver.

LOL, my daily driver is also my rolla and I have 17's MR 7's and am running a 205/40/17 on a drop and I can vouche that after 2 hrs of drving it can be a little painful.
I wonder then how 3 days of drving will be.
