who would ever want an S over an XRS? An XRS looks better, is much faster, and way cooler. It costs more but its what would you rather have, what would you rather afford. Thats like saying "would you want a mustang with a v6 base model, or a cobra supercharged mustang with 390 horsepower"

well the mustang is not exactly the same, but u have made a valid point. u could own almost 2 base mustangs for just the price of a cobra. but for the 2500 u would need to spend to get the xrs its worth it.

I had an 04 Corolla S for a year and now soon I will be getting an 05 XRS so that should tell you something. You would go for S over XRS only for the following reasons:

    1) You want the best fuel economy ( 35 mpg average for S vs. 30 mpg average for XRS)

    2) Don't like driving a stick

    3) Don't care about a much higher level of performance in a Corolla (although, the XRS is perfectly capable of being driven like a normal Corolla as well)

    4) Don't want to spend money on premium gas ( required in XRS)

I would go with either, I prefer the S with a supercharger, but an XRS is not with out its charm

Then we have the XRS tire pressure system, which is funky, but its only an option for the S.
    Then there is insurance,

    AHHH I DON"T KNOW

In Canada, the S manual costs $22800 (sticker price) and the XRS is $24300 ( sticker price) , which is as good as it could ever get. I just drove an XRS today again and there is absolutely no comparison between the performance of the S and XRS. XRS is a monster. I hit lift a few times and saw the people's reaction around since no one expect a Corolla to sound like the way XRS does. Coincidently believe it or not we were at the tail of an early 90 porsche 911 on the free way. He tried his best to lose us especially around the curves, but the salesguy kept the engine roaring at 8000 rpm. Eventually, the porsche guy gave up.

    are you saying i'm gay?

    you'd be half right. ;)

*ahem* to keep this on track with the cars mentioned, if i were forced to pick between the two, it would be the S...only because of the possibilities with the motor. said possibilities are severely limited with the XRS.

You have to remember the insurance for XRS is super low. My insurance agency has the same insurance rates for XRS as they are for S. Not to mention, the cops will not be suspicious of a Corolla like they are for say a souped up Civic or RSX.

    Let me Explain this:
I will pick up the S:
    Advanage:
    1. XRS are Expensive than S
    2. XRS is slower to S with S/C (Power kicks in 6200 rpm, fuel cut at 7000rpm)
    3. XRS Waste more gas than S
    4. XRS Transmittion will cause beginner over shift and blow the engine and transmittion.
    5. XRS only have 10 Lb torque more than S
    6. S are 200lb lighter than XRS.
    7. XRS Can't change sport seat.

    Disadvange:
    1.Smaller Engine without Lift
    2.no rear Diskbreak.
    3.no 6 speed transmittion.
4.Look's better inside with computer LCD dash.
5.speed display over 110 mph, better speed meter.

I think there is not different between S and XRS.If you are Turbo person go for XRS, however you need to reporgram the ECU otherwise it is like corolla base with CAI and complete Exhaust system. on other hand,Base model Corolla are good for S/C , so there is no different between 2 of these depend what type person and taste you in. turbo or S/C.

Man you just have no clue what you are talking about. You should learn the facts before jumping to conclusions:

1 ) XRS has lift kicking in at 6000 RPM and 7000 RPM is where it gets really 'pissed off' and the fuel cut off at 8500 RPM ( I was revving it yesterday at 8200 RPM)

    2) Corolla XRS is only 70 lbs heavier than a Corolla S ( a lot of it is from the bigger alloys).

    3) Corolla XRS speedo goes up to 250 KM and it has Lexus Style optitron guages, which are a lot cooler than my Corolla S guages.

    4) Corolla XRS has only 2 ft lbs of torque more than the S, but it is a lot broader and the XRS is a high revving engine so it hits lift before you can imagine.

5 ) Disk brakes on all four corners in the XRS.

6 ) Supercharger Corolla S is indeed faster than the XRS, but not by a lot and the gas mileage of a supercharged is 15-17 mpg, while XRS has an average gas mileage of 30 mpg.
