Get the XRS. The best sleeper on the market right now. The pure adrenaline rush is worth every penny.

    05-06 corolla?

hey whats up guys. if any of you are keeping score, im the guy that changes his mind about a lot of things! but i think im finally going to put my foot down.. right now i have a white 99 ce auto w/minor mods (exhaust, intake, wheels, custom paints). Im thinking practically, that i will get a new car within the next 6-8 months (after promotion at work) Do you guys think it will really be a step up from what I have if I get a 2005-06 Black Corolla LE 5speed? I figure eventually i could always get a trd supercharger and maybe a nice vuteq kit. It almost feels like I could do so much with a car like that as oppose to what i have now especially it being an auto and all. Just asking for some input thats all.

Just go for the 05 XRS or wait for the 06 XRS although I haven't heard anything about it I'm sure they are going to make a ton of them.

I get a lot of complements on my XRS by people so I am happy with the looks of my car. As for Solara, I love the way that car looks. It is so original that not many people can absorb the looks of that car. Either you love it or you hate it. Yesterday, me and a young guy in a red Solara V6 SE driving side by side and I was melting by looking at the lines and uniqueness of it's styling. But, then again it is not many people's piece of pie. I have heard some very very nasty comments about that car from other people such as, ugly as hell, shapeless hunk of metal etc.

thats true. so performance-wise, the xrs is the way to go? you guys are right about the availability on the 5speed tc, i went to the dealer the other day, and ended up testing a auto tran tc and a 5speed corolla S. No 5pseed tc, and no xrs. it was kind of a dissapointment, but i guess i just gotta look around more. i need more pracitce on a 5speed too. I have issues going from a complete stop, at like a light or something, other than that, im good. Like it was all weird, the dealer was sitting in the passanger seat, and everytime a red light turned green, i managed to peel out and im sure she was thinking "what the fuck is this guy doing?!"

XRS -> If you are looking for a high performance car with a very high revving F1 racer/sports bike feel with everything right from the assembly line and little to modify ( intake/header/exhaust etc.) after you purchase it ( TRD might or might not build a s/c. The one available for Celica GT-S right now is too expensive). Handles as if it were on rails. Hugs the road very well under hard corners.

TC -> Decent and peppy performance with great off the line low end torque and lots of aftermarket mods available including a supercharger. Handles well, but XRS edges out by a small margin.

It is your choice what you want. Does not get any simpler than that. Drive both of them and you will know.

Option 3: Get a 5 Speed Corolla S and buy a TRD Supercharger, Intake, Sport tuned suspension, rims, brake upgrades and exhaust. That will give you a torquey car with all the performance kicks you want. If you decide to test the XRS, I suggest have an experienced driver who knows how to land in lift at every gear shift to truly experience how far the power can go. XRS is like a balloon, the harder you push it, the more power you will get.

so you guys think i should save that little bit more for the xrs? i was figuring if i were to go into the xrs price range, i could afford a scion tc.

    LOOKS:
    tC > XRS

    PEFORMANCE:
    XRS > tC

    ... it's that simply.

Another thing to note about the tC vs XRS aside from the cost. The XRS is a peppy engine with little low end torque when compared to the 2AZ-FE of the tC. The tC is also Scion, and from what I have heard the build quality is not up to Toyota standards. Just for reference sake here are the stats of both:

    2005 XRS:
    HP: 170 @ 7600 RPM
    TQ: 127 @ 4400 RPM
Also has vvtl-i so you get vvti plus lift, and a high redline with a 6-speed tranny (which is very nice)

    2005 tC
    HP: 160 @ 5700 RPM
    TQ: 163 @ 4000 RPM
Only comes with vvti, lower redline, and only a 5-speed tranny.

The XRS only comes in a 6-speed manual, and is getting hard to find a dealer that has one in stock to test drive, but if you find one you can test drive the exact engine/tranny you will purchase (this is what sold me on my XRS). The tC is in stock, but for some stupid idiotic reason Scion is not stocking the 5-speed manual version for test driving. So you will never be able to feel the 5-speed before you buy.

The tC 2AZ-FE has more bold on options such as a S/C (as its engine is shared with the Camry). S/C are nice, but they also will bring the reliability down, and will require premium gas The XRS 2ZZ-GE does not have a S/C available (some say you cant), but has some, and probably more soon options for it. It will run on lower octane fuel, but is recommended to use premium fuel.

I have not seen, nevermind test driven a tC as they do not have them in Canada. In the end its really up to a test drive. Test drive both models on the same day and that will tell you.

Looks are a matter of personal preference. You cannot generalize it to everyone. Personally, I prefer the looks of Corolla XRS by and larger over TC ( I don't like the short rear deck and the tail lights are not really my taste).

Yeah, its my personal prefences :) I like the headlights on the tC very similar to the new bmw headlights. I also like the open grill & bottom part, nice to fit a intercooler. I think as a coupe it looks great, with a BMW front and a g35 body and a ok rear. Im kinda bias on the looks because my mom almost bought one & she was also looking at a XRS, but like the styling of the tC better, i think she'll end up with a solara, that car is sooooo DOPE!!!

sounds like im going for the xrs, thanks guys. im sure toyota will develop something like a supercharger for the xrs in the near future. like i said, this is all probably a year from now. i think i might get a transmission swap to hold me up until then.

not that either, if trd was going to make some kind of forced induction for the 2zz dont ya think they would've already done it since the engine has been out what 5-6 years?
